Finally had a breakthrough last night.

Sometime in the night, one of our little rescue's, (Sophia) climbed into bed, (chair actually) with me. Doesn't sound like much but for the first time in 50 years, I didn't pop awake and leap out of the chair with gun in hand. Maybe, just maybe I'm turning the tide on those demons that haunt me nightly.

This is a big moment for you. The next step might be to put the gun away while you sleep. The subconscious plays a big role in allowing us to overcome our anxieties.

Probably not. She always goes to bed with the wife as do the other 3. Maybe I was having a bad dream or something and she came to my side. I don't know. All I know is I was surprised that a didn't wake up and jump when she obviously jumped up onto the chair.
Because I don't need to share these night terrors with the wife, I try to sleep as far away as possible.
