Fireworks.....

I have seen and enjoyed a number of spectacular professional fireworks displays: The Washington Mall in DC, Hawaii on New Years, Seattle and San Francisco, and the best one of all on Okinawa when the Island Reverted to Japan. They were all extremely well done.

I truly wish that people who do this at home abide by the law and restrict fireworks to the hours of 9PM to a few minutes after 12, and get it over. But around here, it goes on intermittently for days, sometimes at 2 or 3 in the morning. That creates a terrible nuisance and I wish the law would crack down.

I wish that too! It's the same here.

Grew up with fireworks. They're not as much fun when your my age as when you were a kid; however, I don't begrudge people enjoying them for a day or two. As for fireworks being dangerous, the chances of your getting injured or inconvenienced by them is far less than that from, say, a car.
Ain't necessarily so. This area is so very dry now that it's a tinderbox and it wouldn't take much to get it burning. We've already had some smallish bosque fires. And yet idiots have been setting off all kinds of fireworks since the end of last week, and they'll probably continue to do so until the end of next week.

I wish they'd make all fireworks, other than municipal display stuff, illegal here and enforce it. It's not kids setting them off at 2:00 AM, it's adults making the big booms.

I think it goes without saying that you don't do camp fires, fireworks or anything else that could start a fire in drought areas.

I don't know about that. Our hospitals in our State ERs from July 1st to July 6th have over a thousand injuries. Older people Most with blown-off fingers or kids getting burnt with sparklers.

Just this morning's news, a guy was blinded by a firework that didn't go up in the sky. Well, he went over & looked down on it when BOOM it went off, So his face is all disfigured & eyes blow out.

So, what you're suggesting is that we should cater to a small group of really stupid people by removing fireworks. While you're at it, look at auto accident statistics for the same time period and see what's the bigger problem as far as injuries are concerned and tell us why we shouldn't ban cars.

Went to "Red, White and Boom" in Columbus for a few years - half a million folks fighting for a place to stand. The only time I enjoyed it was when we had reservations a restaurant on the top of one of the downtown buildings, great meal, valet parking and a live band to listen/dance to while the crowd left the area. They had seating so we could watch the fire works out the window. This was about 25 years ago.

Our little yapper is not bothered by the loud noise. Neither were my previous two. Slept right thru it.

July 1st Canada Day......Fireworks show at around 11pm, at our fairgrounds.
Not sure what was allowed last year......think people were allowed to watch at the grounds but had to be in their vehicles, and none were allowed to stand around.

Sitting in the middle of my back yard gives me a perfect view, so that's what i will do tomorrow nite as well......did that last year.....was a great view.

I close all windows and pull blinds closed.......helps with Shaalee......doesn't bother Noah......but Micki gets very upset, even with windows and blinds closed......i swear, her hearing is so fine tuned, that she can probably hear wood ticks crawling in the grass under 4ft of snow.
Her get away place is in the bathroom.

There's alway a few firecrackers for a few days after.....not a big issue.

Illegal fireworks are common in my area, and while colored lights under control are fine, the detonations are another matter, especially well into the later evening, and for days before and after July 4th. My dog is also terrified and inconsolable. Celebrants who fire guns into the air are worse, as what goes up must come down, and there have been fatalities from descending rounds...

Watched fireworks from my back yard last nite.
A really nice show.
As usual....Micki can hear them even with all the windows closed.....spent most of the nite in the bathroom.
Didn't bother Shaalee or Noah.
