1958 Biscayne I bought from a junk yard for $50.00 without an engine. I put an old 283ci engine in it that I rebuilt in the backyard. It lasted a couple months before throwing a rod through the oil pan. Ahhh, the good ole days.

Mine was a baby blue 56 Chevy. 2 doors, installed a 409 with a beefed-up Transmission, had to grind some of the steering gear off to fit past it. put the Housing from it to the transmission to fit right. The 56 had mounts on the 409 because of the other transmission. It worked. Very fast but I managed to do well with it. It actually needed a Plate drilled and tapped to the front of the motor and Model A biscket mounts added. Later sold it to Brother-in-Law, getting married then.

We had a four wheel drive white Subaru. I would drive it anywhere and everywhere often. Off road play was a must. I spun out on the freeway and landed in a snow bank and couldn't get out. Only time I got stuck, and I had to drive on country dirt roads a lot. :)

Very first car of my own was a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle
Best friend needed to sell it to help finance a trip to Australia

Gas was 32 cents a gallon at the time
Could go a good 75 miles on a dollar ... one more time ... 75 MILES ON A DOLLAR
... so long as you didn't need to go over 70 mph to get there ...
Tires didn't wear out on Beetles. They dry rotted long before wearing out ... no weight on them.

I painted one Emerald Green for a friend and his Girlfriend in 72 ish. They drafted 18 wheelers down the interstate back then.
The young ladies loved them.

First car I could afford was a used 1966 Delta 88 Olds
(scruffier than this example one - before that I borrow the folks car)

My favorite of mine was a used 1978 Triumph Spitfire.

My current car is a 1997 Just-a-Car. Doesn't look like much but has been a great dependable car.

I had a white one.. 1970' model second hand in early '84... hated that car...

1950 Riley 2.5 roadster with right hand drive was a very unusual car in the NY area. Had a lot of fun with it.

They don't make Rileys any more.

Between my late wife and I we owned 41 cars, but for 20 years I didn't own a car because I drove company cars.

My favorite wasn't anything flashy.

A 2003 Civic Hybrid, I got about 600 miles per tank. With 7 CDs in the dash I could just get in it and go and go and go. I needed to stop more often than it did.

Those were the days, you had enough glass to be able to see the road. Now we get slab sides and gun-port slits for windows.
