Fishless Fish

I am all for a plant based diet if that is what people want .....
however i have yet to find these substitutes that taste like the real thing.
Why do they need to process and add flavoring to vegetables to make believe or pretend it is meat.?...
I can not imagine all the additives and processing to LOOK like meat is healthy. not to mention in the process chances of food borne illness/ problems.

If a person likes chickpeas ( often used in creating these items) eat them.............. they do not have to be processed to look like a piece of chicken or something.

no one is adding flavors and shaping meat to resemble carrots or broccoli ....

I agree.

The meat substitutes that I've tried don't really measure up and IMO are overpriced.

I see them as crutch foods that help people transition to a plant-based diet.

Try chickpea of the sea. :giggle:

1 14 oz. can chickpeas drained and rinsed, or two cups of cooked dry beans
½ cup diced celery
¼ cup diced onion
¼ cup mayonnaise or Italian salad dressing
a squirt of lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, or red wine vinegar.
salt and pepper to taste

Mash a portion of the chickpeas, combine with other ingredients, and chill.
Serve as a salad or a sandwich filling.
No, it doesn't taste like tuna, but it is good with a bowl of tomato soup.

I am a big seafood eater. My favorite fish is Cod, followed by Haddock. We make it in a toaster oven. Seven minutes on the one side and four minutes on the flip side. Some coleslaw and fresh Hawaiian rolls and I’m all set.

I also like shellfish. Blue crabs, lobster, Gulf shrimp (no farm raised). scallops, squid and clams. NO oysters. My dad loved raw oysters, oyster pie, oyster stew, but not me.

Oooooh that sounds good!!!

Chickpeas are one of my favorites.. but I do prefer veggies etc. when they're not passed off as meat-substitutes.

No, thanks. I'll pass on both frankenfish and faux fish.

We all know that ocean pollution and over-fishing are huge problems. At the rate things are going, soon there'll be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Plastic is killing everything, including us. The government isn't doing enough to stop or clean up pollution. What's more, the methods that they use aren't working very well. They're actually creating pollution while cleaning up pollution and killing fish in the process.

I love fish, but I eat less of it than I'd like because I'm particular about where it comes from and how it's sourced, and the good stuff is very co$tly. I love shellfish, too. Depending on which source you choose to believe, it might be the better choice when it comes to eating seafood. Only you can decide.

Some food for thought. 🐟🐡🐠🦈 🤔

Bella ✌️

Of course, this is an ad for faux fish. You really don't think the guy is going to gag with every "delicious" mouthful. I'm not a fish person, so if I shy away from real fish, I doubt I'd want to catch a faux fish dish. We have faux hamburgers, but they're not exactly wiping out real beef sales, for a reason..

Um....do NOT mess with my fish......
Well, check yer 'crab meat'

the Japanese have been making it and other popular fish for years
It's called surimi

Mainly processed fish guts
My son worked on a Japanese fish processor up in Alaska
Huge vats of surimi swill

Enough to turn one vegan

Nope. No crab meat unless its whole chunks. I also prefer my fish whole or a fillet. None of that minced and pressed crap. Mostly, its fresh caught catfish or bass, some bluegill and an occasional rainbow.
