Five dead, 18 injured in shooting at gay nightclub in Colorado, police say

Similar laws - at least in Los Angeles. Guns in vehicles only when going to or coming from range. And they must be in a locked container or locked in trunk. When I travel to the range, I don't stop anywhere anyway. I won't leave my car unattended with weapons in it.
What do you think can and should be done to reduce gun violence?

Do you think the Swiss or LA model would work nationwide?

Turns out, the suspect identifies as "non-binary" and his father was a porn star.

This just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Saw that. The suspect is one of many criminals that basically grew up in a fatherless household. They say he didn't even want to talk to his father. They apparently had a call about 6 months ago.

The father also did reality tv including Divorce Court and Intervention for a meth addiction. Father is also a convicted drug smuggler. The mother had a criminal history including arson which could be why she decided not to press charges after the bomb threat.

Even if the parents didn't press charges, I think his record shouldn't have been sealed. He was clearly a threat..someone who should not have had the opportunity to buy a gun. The law failed those victims. @win231 Loved Brian Dennehy...thought he was sexy and usually don't feel that way about stocky men. Apparently I wasn't alone because I read he was named "Sexy senior citizen". :) I didn't see the movie about the wives but saw F/X and F/X 2 a couple of times each.

You'd like "Rambo, First Blood." Brian played a jerk cop, but he did it really well!

If it somehow helps them it should be found out and known. But I am not sure how it helps... loss is loss.
My 1st question when I hear about murders, whether mass or individual cases is WHY??! If it was my loved one I want to know why. Last year a friend of mine was murdered, wrapped in plastic and dumped like garbage. She lived in another town and was found in the town where she lived. Looks like this will wind up being a cold case. But if they ever find out who did it I would want to know why.

That sounds familiar, that murder @OneEyedDiva. I am so sorry to hear she was your friend. Ghastly.
Thank you Pepper. I posted about it shortly after it happened. It was not even in the local newspapers. I found out about from my ex SIL and Facebook. I asked my nephew, who is an officer, why I couldn't find anything about it in the news reports. At the time he said it was for Investigative purposes but I suspect there are other reasons.

Ashley Paugh's father Curt asked the court: "Why isn't the punishment harsher?"
"He gets to breathe air, eat three meals a day," he said, adding that Aldrich should "rot in loneliness and hate".

The sentence:
As part of a plea deal, the attacker was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, as well as 46 consecutive 48 year sentences for the attempted murders.

---
Since people no longer want a death penalty for a killer what legal sentence would be harsher than the one given?

Although there doesn't seem to be a legal way to do it the mother of the killer should be held accountable for her actions according to some of the things I've heard.

I don't believe in the death penalty either. To me, it's letting them off easy. But then again, I can't think of much worse than being locked in a cage like an animal for the rest of my life, especially if the other inmates don't play nice. And perhaps the guards will treat him like crap at every encounter.

@Alligatorob Glad to read he got life with no chance of parole.

The world has gone mad. Not sure if its by design, cyclical, biblical, or because of social media we just hear more than we used to , but its gone mad.
That's right! Social Media is making the crazy people, more and more crazy.

I just stick with "Senior Forum." So far as I know, no one has been killed on this site; at least I'm still around.
