Flakes are out early this year

I was tryng to sell a set of aluminum lawn chairs on Marketplace. I got about 20 responses, but when I tried to make the people be exact with the day and time they wanted to come and look, it was one excuse after another, e.g. - I must have clicked on the wrong button, I'm leaving the area and won't be back for quite some time, I'll have to get back to you on that.
Some didn't even follow up on my messages to them . One person said she drove by and decided against it after seeing what a run-down house it was. To me it doesn't look run down. Maybe she went to the wrong address, but all the houses around here are about the same. Does she live in Buckingham Palace? I just went out and took a pic of my house - is it that shabby looking?

No, it is not shabby looking! I'm frankly very surprised that someone would say that. Maybe some of these people are just playing around, and not serious.

definitely not a shabby house, just ignore that rude woman, but as for the other excuses, they are multi worldwide excuses.. the exact same ones are used here too on Marketplace, et al...

Yep, hollydolly, the same excuses as last year. Makes me wonder why they would bother to express interest, especially if they were going away for an idefinite extended period of time (if that is the actual reason).

I did sell the chairs this morning. The woman said she'd be here between 9 and 11 am. It got to be 10:45 and I sent her a PM. She responded almost immediately that she was on her way. We were talking about no-shows for online selling. She attributed it to the aftermath of the pandemic in that many people don't have a lot of pocket money right now and are looking for things for next-to-nothing or free. She said if she had anything to get rid of, she'd just put it out in front of her house with a FREE sign. I told her I came from a very conservative family. My parents always said that EVERYTHING has some value - nothing is free.

We use Nextdoor app here. When pandemic was first beginning, there were a couple of females advertising for big items of furniture wanting FREE because they didn't have anything! Why would you move into an area and not have anything? Just because you felt pretty sure you could MOOCH off of people? That's so wrong but she got called on it by another neighbor who had checked where she said she lived. She didn't live there and was just trying to mooch off of people in a fairly affluent neighborhood!

We‘ve had that type of con going on here too. One time it was a second hand dealer.

haha...it's just incredible , we have again..that exact same thing happening here on NextDoor app.. people saying they've just moved into the area, and need furniture , orTV's or Freezers, and they want them for nothing... today I laughed out loud when someone asked ''is there anyone giving away a Lawnmower for free..must be petrol driven, as I have no electric yet '' :ROFLMAO:

Not any where near shabby, very nice home.......they’re the ones with a problem.......lot of rude people in this world.

Well, the house looks well maintained, but the driveway. I mean really. It looks like there are some small cracks in the pavement. Have you no pride? Don't you have it resurfaced every 90 days?

No? Me neither. And our cracks are much bigger than yours. Dangerous for bicycles and skateboards, according to the grandchildren.

This is a lovely and well maintained home. I love the arcs over the windows! :)

I tried Nextdoor and for some reason it won't let me upload photos. This is what it looks like when I try:

Deb, it looks like you're trying to get to "Nextdoor" via Facebook. Instead, try this:
  1. Google www.nextdoor.com.
  2. Enter your residential street address* and email address.
  3. Select Find your neighborhood. ...
  4. Complete all of the required fields
Also, The maximum file size for photos on Nextdoor is 10 MB. Photos must be in . JPG, .
And, you can't post an attachment when posting via email.

Btw, your house is really nice! I love the buttercream exterior paint with white trim.

Sometimes I wonder if people even read the ads. I clearly state that any items must be picked up in person and no cryptocurrency is accepted. The first thing I hear is "Do you take Venmo, Bitcoin or PayPal and can you ship it to me?"
I would assume that most of those people are intentionally pulling your chain.

The thing that I can't understand is why you put yourself through it for such insignificant sums of money.
