Flakes are out early this year

Some great things happen on NextDoor. A lady last fall offered free iris bulbs. Out of dozens of people saying yes, I was the only one that actually showed up. (The iris patch is now 8" tall). Also, it is a great way to find lost pets! So, just because many people are rude or just scamming, there are really good folks out there. And yes, your house is lovely and the chairs a great bargain!

Your house is certainly not shabby! It is VERY nice! The person who said that either lives in a mansion (but then why buy used chairs?) Or is just mean, (I'll go with mean) because you had the "audacity" to follow up on HER commitment.

I would never try to sell anything again, after being with my nephew to sell my sister's refrigerator. It was just a couple of years old, double door, stainless steel,
a good brand. He put it on Craig's list and 50% of seekers did not show. Price was stated as "firm." I stayed upstairs in the house listening while he was showing it, in case of weirdos, I could call for help. Thankfully that did not happen. One looker, said he had 50% of the price in cash now (how else would he buy it?) and then said "you wasted my time". A real buyer showed up eventually , correct amount, a vehicle to hold it and help with him.

Maybe that woman went to the wrong address.
That was my first thought, but there aren't really any run-down houses on my street. They all look like well-maintained tract homes. But then who knows what she perceived or her emotional state. COVID and economic issues have driven people to substance use.
She could have just said she changed her mind.

OK is this the best one yet ?... today on Nextdoor... someone is pulling a fast one .. they start by saying they've brought their family members over from Ukraine.. ( yes like you can just bring people over and put them in a house) , but anyway.. this is what they want people to donate ...I have to go over and Copy & paste their desires there's so much...

Quote :
We have rented a flat for them and looking for some household items. Double bed, two single beds, cutlery, crockery, tv, kettle, etc.

Ok..thus far you might think, nothing too odd here.. but wait there's more.. despite flats around here being extremely scarce and hugely expensive , I'm surprised this person was able just to rent a flat with no problems,,,

''I'm also looking to buy a cheap automatic car so they can drive the kid around and do shopping without fully relying on me. ''

...and there's more

I'm also looking for native English speaker who would be interested to take my mom for a walk from time to time and help her break the English speaking barrier.

...and it doesn't stop there..
.

Also, if you know a driving instructor for an automatic car who can give a few lessons for free it would be amazing, because both my mom and my sister drove in Ukraine but only left hand drive.

errrm.... right ok... not wanting too much then !

Maybe that woman went to the wrong address. Even if she did, she’s still rude to take the time to get back to you just to be nasty.
It could also be that she never really drove by. Just being derogatory because her life is not a happy one right now. I'd be curious if she responded to other ads in this fashion. I could report it to Marketplace, but seriously doubt they ever really look into these things. They'd be spending 28 hours a day on it as evidenced by other comments in this thread.

Seems everyone is looking for things for free and not just trinkets. When I cleaned out my uncle's apartment, I got a lovely knotty pine end table. It was very heavy and sturdy. I started out at $20 and no responses. A week later I dropped the price to $10 and still no interest. Then I went to $5 and nothing. When I put it on for free, I received almost 20 inquiries. I was telling the guy that actually showed up to get it about it and he said he wasn't surprised since he only looked for free items.

Not shabby at all. That lady is insecure and makes herself feel better by putting down others. Very neat and well kept. I love the covered porch, half-moon windows and cutouts on the garage doors. Your chairs were in great condition. $10 was a bargain!
I was thinking along the same thought. I also wonder if she flaked herself and made up some lame excuse with, as you stated, a put down. And never even drove by Deb's house

Arg. I'm participating in my neighbors' yard sale in a couple weeks. This is really depressing. I believe the people seeking freebies are just reselling things. Personally, I'd rather just give my things to someone I know (for free) who would value them.

We seldom sell anything anymore because there are so many flakes every time it makes it a very unpleasant experience. We give to Habitat for Humanity since they are doing a good job helping people that appreciate the step-up kind of help.

Sometimes I wonder if people even read the ads. I clearly state that any items must be picked up in person and no cryptocurrency is accepted. The first thing I hear is "Do you take Venmo, Bitcoin or PayPal and can you ship it to me?"
Me too I hate it when they do that. My husband loses patience with them and asks them if they can read, or, asks them "did you actually read the ad?"

I was tryng to sell a set of aluminum lawn chairs on Marketplace. I got about 20 responses, but when I tried to make the people be exact with the day and time they wanted to come and look, it was one excuse after another, e.g. - I must have clicked on the wrong button, I'm leaving the area and won't be back for quite some time, I'll have to get back to you on that.
Some didn't even follow up on my messages to them . One person said she drove by and decided against it after seeing what a run-down house it was. To me it doesn't look run down. Maybe she went to the wrong address, but all the houses around here are about the same. Does she live in Buckingham Palace? I just went out and took a pic of my house - is it that shabby looking?

What a rude comment. That’s a great price. Those are expensive yo buy new. And they can be rewebbed. Your home is not shabby

I put my antique stoneware butter churn on Marketplace and got 3 inquiries asking for my bank account number so they could do a money transfer to pay for it. Yaaahhhh....that's gonna happen! More likely they do a transfer from my account to theirs. What happened to "Come and pick it up with cash in your pocket?"

Yesterday I got a call from a man calling me "grandma" saying he was in jail in Mexico and needed $1000.00 for a lawyer. I replied that he would have to stay in jail as I did not have the money and then I hung up. I get these a few at a time and then none for a few months. Seems to be a cycle or something!

It would have been interesting to hear his response or how fast he hung up if you had replied with " That's strange, I don't have grandchildren".
