One of the most ridiculous conspiracies are those Flat Earthers (FEs) that believe the earth is flat. One of FE's main arguments is governments conspire to hide the fact a 24 hour sun in summers at poles is a lie because governments don't allow citizens to go there. So a group of prominent flat earthers courtesy of a millionaire, were flown to Antarctica's South Pole during summer and found out they were WRONG after all as some captured the 24 hour sun with their own equipment. Of course, other less convinced FE's are still gasping for ideas like marbles bouncing around in a pin ball machine as to why they must have been tricked.

I doubt they believe it at all. It seems more like a form of trolling that got out of control, making every effort they can to "prove" it just to keep the arguing going.

Very similar to the trolling around the Apollo landings.
 
There are some, who "believe" whatever, and no matter what others says, their belief is unshakeable. The same is true of the moon landing deniers, and their ilk. I don't know why but there's always a small contrary group. If there was a plan to make everybody a true billionaire, they'd gripe about it.
