Florida judge denies stand your ground defense

@ Big Horn

I see nothing funny about that story, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic.
The thread topic is about people who die because of stupid behavior. Only the stupid would either try to provoke a fight or risk their lives by simply choosing a dangerous location. They are generally called Darwin Award winners. They fully deserve contempt and ridicule.

No.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? The thread topic is clearly stated, and you're just not 'getting it'.

Unlike some other members, my tolerance level for pointless back & forth bickering is low.
Bye.

This is my final say on this so called "I carry a gun for my protection" theme.
I thank the Lord this country does not allow the carrying of lethal weapons for self protection. It sickens me when I see film of a policeman in the US pulling a car over for maybe a minor offence like speeding. then pulling out his gun and screaming "Get out of the car, lie on your face with you hands above your head."
Here if the police pull someone over for speeding it goes something like "Good morning Sir, Do you know why I have stopped you?" A much more civilised way of doing things.

I've had a driver's license for nearly sixty years and been stopped by police on a few occasions. The police officer has always greeted me in a courteous manner. In fact, I have never met anyone who said he was treated otherwise. However, I've never been stopped for anything but a minor traffic offense. If police either in this country or yours were stopping a suspected criminal the procedure would be far different.

Spelling in my country sometimes differs from yours, but police procedures don't. Mexico, North Korea, and Russia can be very different but that's not the case in Western Europe or North America.

BTW, UK gun laws do not apply in Northern Ireland; they have their own. I've never heard of any explosion of crime rates in that part of your realm.

Since you stated that the previous post would be your last on the subject I expect no response.

Northern Ireland

More than 100,000 people in Northern Ireland (approximately 5.7% of the population) own firearms, having 380,000 among them.[SUP][57][/SUP] Gun control laws in Northern Ireland are less restrictive than gun laws in Great Britain due to the Good Friday Agreement, allowing Northern Ireland to govern itself and pass less restrictive laws. Gun laws in Northern Ireland are primarily affected by the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004. Under the new law, first-time buyers will be required to demonstrate they can be trusted with the firearm. It will be up to firearms dealers selling the products to tell new buyers, and those upgrading their firearms, about the safety procedures. Firearm possessors in Northern Ireland must not transport their firearms to Great Britain. All gun owners in Northern Ireland are required to apply for a Firearm Certificate to possess firearms. Permits are normally issued to anyone who has good reason to possess firearms, such as target shooting, hunting, and personal protection.[SUP][58][/SUP] Northern Ireland is the only part of the United Kingdom where personal protection is accepted as a legitimate reason to obtain and own a firearm and is the only part where handguns are permitted. Semi-automatic rifles are only permitted when chambered in .22 calibre (with certain exceptions). Handguns and Shotguns are permitted in any calibre. There is no limit on magazine capacity for rifles and handguns, and the magazine limit for shotguns is 2 rounds. In the countryside, people will often open carry loaded rifles and shotguns.[SUP][57][/SUP] A firearm certificate for a personal protection weapon will only be authorised where the Police Service of Northern Ireland deems there is a ‘verifiable specific risk’ to the life of an individual and that the possession of a firearm is a reasonable, proportionate and necessary measure to protect their life.[SUP][59][/SUP] Permits for personal protection also allow the holder to carry their firearms concealed.

John 13:34-35

Good thing there is some hope in John 13:34-35 But if wondering where killing was OK came from. This incomplete list might be a clue.

He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead.

So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city. Then they devoted all in the city to destruction, both men and women, young and old, oxen, sheep, and donkeys, with the edge of the sword.

Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves.

So now Bible verses have entered this thread.
Sheesh.

Yeah since Shalimar thought it belonged why not present another view of what's in the bible? Killing had to start somewhere, seems like the bible presented enough evidence of that.

The Constitution, not the Bible, is the highest law in America.

First Amendment

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

True but use of a bible verse to make a point wasn't begun by me. Nothing about law was mentioned just about Love one Another & the record of killing in the bible.

There is the theory that it was a two-step process - thrown popcorn, shooting. Does anyone know if OUlson was (as Reeves claimed) "in a fit of rage"? Did he just toss the popcorn and not move towards Reeves? It seems these are important issues.

Would you all feel the same if it were a hostile stranger in a public but dark place?

lol - what part of "in my house" is too complex for you to understand?

And to answer your idiotic rhetorical question, I'm not a coward and would never, ever murder anyone for throwing popcorn under any circumstance. Is that also too complex for you to understand???

Not to mention that a person who fears popcorn to be a lethal weapon should not be toting around a handgun.

I thought the judge ruled that popcorn & the alleged cell phone were not sufficient cause. Given that and the fact that this was part of the legal process which works to resolve these matters, isn't this a good example of why not convicting in social media and letting the system work is the right thing to do?
