There ought to be a special place in hell for people who hurt animals.. that little dog would have trusted her but she took it into a bathroom at the airprt and killed it...

ORLANDO -- A Central Florida woman was taken into custody after police say she killed a dog and left it in a bathroom at Orlando International Airport in 2024.

An arrest affidavit from the Orlando Police Department says on Dec. 16, Alison Lawrence traveled to the airport with her white dog, Tywinn for a flight to Colombia.

Lawrence didn't have the right paperwork to allow the dog to board and was told she couldn't take Tywinn with her.

Lawrence "is believed to have taken extreme and tragic action by killing the dog," the affidavit says.

Surveillance video shows she spoke with agents at the ticket counter for about 15 minutes.

She's then captured on camera leaving the counter and heading to a bathroom with the dog then coming out without him.

The Orlando Police Department said officers responded to the airport on Dec. 16 about the dead animal found by an employee inside the woman's restroom.

Officers were taken to a trash bag where dog accessories and the dead dog were found.

A woman who was working at the time told police she saw a woman, later identified as Lawrence, sitting on the bathroom floor of a stall, cleaning up a large amount of water and dog food.

The employee said she had to tend to an emergency elsewhere, and when she returned, she saw Lawrence exit the stall and leave with a purse and suitcase.

That's when the employee removed the trash bag from the canister and found the dog, the affidavit says.

Lawrence's name and contact information were on the dog tag, police said.

Animal services responded and helped identify the dog using its chip and locating Lawrence.

It was determined that Tywinn's death was from drowning.

"I have a dog, so I don't know how that can process in somebody's head and think that's okay," Daniel Delgado told WFTV. "We did talk about the lady and the dog just last week wondering why she wasn't out walking her dog."

Tywinn is listed as a 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, the affidavit says.

Lawrence was taken into custody Tuesday in Lake County, where she has since posted $5,000 bond according to OPD.

She is facing aggravated animal cruelty, which is a third-degree felony, according to police.

That made me cry.
..and it does because a dog or any animal that trusts you is like a baby.. they depend on you for everything, and that little dog would have happily gone into the bathroom with her...

How she managed to do it without anyone seeing or hearing .. goodness knows.. but I hope she gets her teeth knocked out by animal lovers in prison

Oh, I hope for much worse 😡

..and the worst of it is.. I bet she gets off with a a very light punishment, here in the UK killing an animal doesn't carry any real punishment from the courts, I don't know about Florida .. but it should ..

In part:

828.12 Cruelty to animals.—
(1) A person who unnecessarily overloads, overdrives, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance or shelter, or unnecessarily mutilates, or kills any animal, or causes the same to be done, or carries in or upon any vehicle, or otherwise, any animal in a cruel or inhumane manner, commits animal cruelty, a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or both.
(2) A person who intentionally commits an act to any animal, or a person who owns or has the custody or control of any animal and fails to act, which results in the cruel death, or excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering, or causes the same to be done, commits aggravated animal cruelty, a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or by a fine of not more than $10,000, or both.

The female dog herself is not naive impulsive teenager she's 57, How the heck does a so called older adult do that out of the blue. Wonder if she has a criminal record.

Her flight was to Columbia. Not exactly racing to the tropical beaches. Wonder if it was a 'business' trip. Has the resume and skill set to work down there.

This is just dreadful, that poor little dog, sickening the cruelty & downright callousness of the woman.
this is why I believe she should face a much harsher prison sentence than the maximum of 5 years... obviously because she committed a heinous crime.. but the callousness in the way she did it, makes her a very dangerous person to be among normal people...

The suspect's sister doesn't know where she is and the suspect doesn't have a phone. Does she mean a mobile phone and/or landline as well. Read some where her phone was disconnected.

I don't think she is going to show up at trial. Her flight was to Columbia. And that's where this story might end. Also law enforcement seems slow or timid releasing information on a lower level felony case. Wonder if they did discover or suspect something else about that trip.

The penalty in Florida for Aggravated Animal Cruelty is as follows:

Aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony under Florida criminal law 828.12, and carries a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison. A conviction for this offense also carries a potential fine of up to $10,000 and the possibility of being ordered to undergo psychological counseling and anger management.

If she doesn’t go on the run, she should receive the max penalty. There is no reason to have done that. I would think the local SPCA could have helped by picking up the dog and having someone foster it. We just fostered a dog last week. Our SPCA has a waitlist for fosters to get on. It’s a long list. My wife and I will foster any dog or cat under 35 pounds, if we have no plans for the time period needed.

I noticed the writer of the article wrote the story from an affidavit that was a request for an arrest warrant. Newspaper reporters often do this. It makes their job a lot easier because in most instances, the affidavit is written like a story.

I can only speak for United Airlines, which has rules for boarding dogs and cats. Either one must have a health certificate from a Vet stating that the animal has been examined and given rabies shots and any other shots required by the airlines. There are special inoculations needed for both dogs and cats. The certificates must then be presented to the gate agent who will approve the animal to board.

This woman is a genuine whack-whack.
