Food for Thought... Post Words of Wisdom Here...

“You can’t plow a field by turning it over in your mind”.
I relate to this because I am often guilty of thinking a problem to death and never doing the work ( turning the soil over) to solve the problem.

[A] fistful of business cards does not a community make…It needs to mean caring for and helping each other too, not just hustling.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? From the Roman writer Juvenal, meaning "Who watches the watchers?" What keeps the people we trust honest?

But my favorite Roman proverb is as timeless as any words of wisdom in human history. Found on gates preserved in the ancient city of Pompeii, Cave Cane, "beware of dog". Perhaps it's one answer to Juvenal's quandry: trust the politicians who promised to keep law and order, but make sure there's a mean dog in your backyard.

I've been thinking about this poem by John Donne a lot lately:

No Man is an Island

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass . . . it’s about learning to dance in the rain!

In the end only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.

Before getting upset, ask yourself will this even matter tomorrow or in six months or in five years. If the answer is no, just let it go!
