Football fan killed during game in fight with another fan

Not uncommon these days to find fans fighting at professional sport events. But, it is unusual to find them killing each other. I wonder if the fan that survived is proud of himself for 'winning' the fight. Last man standing wins, right? And, for his prize he gets to know he's a killer for the rest of his life; which in my state makes him a felon.

How about we WAIT for the investigation, the autopsy, and the trial to happen, before you brand some body a felon ? Of course that will take time, compared to your rush to justice knee jerk opinion. JimB.
 

When the Eagles were in the Veterans Stadium in Philie, it was common to have thugs in the 700 section beating up fans for fun. Two or three guys would attack anybody who looked like they didn't have much fight in them- all for fun. It got so bad they actually built a detention room, and a courtroom with a judge to immediately throw those thugs in jail.
 
I saw a great fight in Pittsburgh when they played the Browns. This game has always been a big rivalry. I forget who won the game, but the dude in the Steeler shirt won the fight. They were both cuffed and taken away.

I looked at the wire the PSP has in their office and CBS is reporting that 3 Dolphin fans had a back and forth argument with a Pats fan when a Dolphins fan reached over top of the people arguing and hit the Pats fan twice in the head,

The message is marked as a "Preliminary Report." If that's the case, I wouldn't think a mouth battle should get anyone killed. We call those types of hits "Sucker Punches." I am sure there will be additional reporting as the facts become available.
 
It happens all the time at Football matches in the UK... not necessarily deaths, but fighting between the fans..I'm sure that's what half of them go for rather than the match.

It's not even a new thing either. My father never took my mother out at al.. but this one time he took her to a Football match between 2 major teams. I remember it well.. they came home, my mother was shaking, they'd left the Stadium minutes before everyone else to avoid the huge surge of people, and had got on the bus to go home.

As the driver drove past the stadium exit, the fans who had thronged there, attacked the bus, and turned a whole double decker over on it's side.. ..my parents were on the top deck, fortunately unhurt except for shock... and that was in the 60's

Nowadays more and more football clubs are banning members for life if they are involved in fights..
 
There was a movement some years ago to ban beer sales after the third quarter. I don't know the outcome because I haven't been to a football game in decades.

I'm sure alcohol is a major factor in incidents of this sort. Add that to a person "looking for a fight" and you've got guaranteed trouble.
 
Back in the 1970's & early 1980's, I would see big mouth Boston Red Sox fans running their mouths at old Yankee Stadium. I would think, "Keep it up, and you'll be sorry!" After all, they were on our turf, and they were greatly outnumbered. Sometimes they were pelted by flying beer cans.

During the 1976 World Series ( I had tickets for 3 home games), when my Yankees were swept 4 straight by the Big Red Machine (Cinncinnati Reds). There was a big mouth Reds fan running his big mouth. The Yankees were losing, so they were in no mood to listen to a loud mouth. So a lot of Yankees fans ganged up on him verbally and trashed him. Later in the game, I saw police usher out a fan who was bleeding from one of his arms. Don't know who he was rooting for, or if he was the loud mouth or not.
 
Yet another reason I don't attend mainstream sports.

Once at a motorcycle road race, a vehicle next to [us] pulled way past the clearly marked vheicle parking limit sign & red line. Blocking our view,the verbal arguing got pretty heated .. but before it turned physical one guy in my group spotted a cop. The cop came over told the driver to move his car. He refused ... long story short ... two of the other occupants were taken away in cuffs. The driver his girlfriend & the two now spare girlfriends left the area .

Rumor had it that the [two] were arrested on drug charges.

In all the years 30-40 that I attended [mostly motorcycle] and auto races that was the only incident I can remember seeing.

Lets not pretend that fighting in the pits is not a long standing feature of small town stock car racing . It happens. But how the track management deals with the problem can make all the difference. Example.. A driver beats up another driver after the feature race is over. The track management bans the driver for the rest of the season, AND so do the 4 other tracks that he used to race at. Faced with no other place to race, the driver sells the race car and moves on to other things. Eventually the message gets through. JImB.

I never said it never happened in motorsports ....... I only related what I personally witnessed in the many years I attended.

And as you pointed out when it happens, it usually happens between the drivers . IMO it is rare amoung the fans .
 
The person who assaulted him is not being charged. It seems the man who died had an undisclosed medical condition that likely led to his death. Fighting at a sports event...how juvenile, then this one turned tragic. I wonder how the man who hit him felt when he realized the man died? Wonder if he was scared that he'd wind up going to prison? :unsure:
