For our hollydolly and her husband...............

At any point in yours & your hubby's flu, did you get in touch with your doctor, or hospital? I'm wondering when it is crucial to do that?

So relieved you came out of it okay, though it sounds really rough. Now to get your hubby all better.

Glad you're doing well Holly, hope your hubby feels better soon, for him.

I was only in bed a day and a half, I couldn't keep anything down, including water I was very sick (V&D) and the fever , so I did get dehydrated during that time but after those days I could eat very small amounts but was able to drink despite feeling queasy , but since the last few days I've been able to eat normally again , although a little less than usual .....

hubs didn't get sick in that way as I did in the beginning ( NO V&D) , but he couldn't eat at all, was just too ill and feverish to even think about food much less face it ..but he was able to drink water . He'd wake and drink the water by his bed of which I added a little glucose then fall back into almost coma like sleep with the high fever , for the first 3 days.. no food tho' ..

... after that he was able to drink a shot of Fresh ginger, freshly squeezed lemon and apple juice, (just one shot no more) first thing in the mornings for the next couple of days and which he's now having every morning , then later still , able to eat small amounts,.. and now tonight he's managed a whole Vegan escalope about the size of his hand , and some broccoli... , and you're absolutely right he's lost an amazing amount of weight in this last almost 2 weeks.. surprisingly very noticeable indeed. .. ( no beer or JD , and a restricted diet) but we've not weighed him

I don't think I've lost any myself tho' but I might just jump on the scales and see...
Wow Holly. 😳 That’s really sick. You poor souls.
There have only been three times in my life that I’ve been that sick with the flu. Once when I was 4, had to be hospitalized since I was hallucinating. Then when I was about 8 or 9 years old and then once when I was a bridesmaid on a cold rainy weekend which totally sucked and I remember the events so vividly.

It’s looks like you’ve done a great job of nursing you both back to health though. I’m a huge fan of ginger for nausea. What is vegan escalope?

Does your daughter know?Do your neighbours know? Did you have to call anyone and tell them not to come over?

It must be difficult thinking of all the protocol that goes along with this virus while healthy, I can’t imagine remembering it all while sick. There’s certainly advantages to rural living in those regards but there’s still so much to consider.

Does food taste wonderful again or are you not quite there yet?

Sounds like an inquisition? Don’t worry about answering all my questions. I sound so nosey.
Mrs. Kravetts. 😅

I've had Pneumonia twice in my life..once when I was just a toddler and the second time when I was 23 and my baby was just 2 years old, and I was bedridden for 3 weeks during winter, it was horrendous .

Yes my daughter knew because I was ill before my husband so he let everyone know.

I didn't lose my sense of taste tbh unlike some people ( although my husband can't taste or smell ) .. so food doesn't taste any different to me , but I did lose my appetite, and just couldn't face food..

...Today Mr HD...has regressed once more, he's exhausted and having difficulty breathing properly today..not gasping for breath but very uncomfortable and having to sit and try and catch his breath .. he seems to get one day where he's feeling better then the next day much worse.. , but he won't let me ring the doctor, so unless he starts gasping for breath and I have to call for an ambulance there's nothing I can do because he won't allow me .. (we're on day 14 with him)

What about Vick’s vapour rub on his chest. Warm compresses with some Vick’s and / or peppermint , eucalyptus, tea tree oil, frankincense or other essential oils can help greatly placed over his sinus areas and chest areas . Plus filling a huge bowl with hot water and draping a towel over the head with a blob of Vick’s or the above essential oils in it can help him breathe better and break up the phlegm.
The poor guy. :(

Same here .... had pneumonia twice in my life too. Worse case was at age 13 and in the hospital for some time.
Lost 25 pounds and was so weak .. don't think I could handle it at this age!

he has no mucus now, he's been taking Carbocisteine for the mucus for almost a week , and that's cleared his chest of inflamation that neither vicks nor Olbas oil was able to do ... the breathing problems is coming from his lungs rather than sinus, and just short movements for example of say 30 minutes , are leaving him totally breathless in the same way as I remember pneumonia does.. trying to grab his breath, and feeling weak and exhausted .. yet he was better yesterday.. .. it's very puzzling that he goes from being more energetic one day (albeit just slowly moving around ) then completely flattened the next day..

yes but they won't hospitalise him here at the moment unless he's literally almost choking from being unable to breathe or has a fever over 38 degrees ..there are no beds.. or enough ventilators and they're not even testing the medical staff much less people who are showing symptoms. They just keep telling us to just keep him isolated unless he literally almost can't take a breath at all, before they will hospitalise him. .. and currently although he's having trouble breathing properly he's not gasping for the next breath, so he won't allow me to call for a doctor because he doesn't see the point in them just repeating that same mantra about staying isolated.. . It's frustrating for me too as you can imagine, I'm still not fully recovered myself so it's wearing me out ..but we're doing everything we can with Oragnic drinks ( fresh ginger/lemon and apple juice) in the mornings...high vitamin ginger/carrot and apple juice throughout the day to drink rather than his usual beers.. and he takes organice Vitamins too... and with the Prescribed meds to clear the mucus, there's not a lot more we can do except .. go on keeping everything as clean as possible.

I even offered him my asthma inhalers if they would help... but he (probably) rightly turned them down..but I was just hoping they might help him breathe better..

sorry guys..really I'm beginning to be a little tedious about this on here , and I thank you for all your suggestions and well wishes... but if it's helped anyone at all who may think they're suffering then it's done it's job...we can only keep our fingers crossed that he starts to get well very soon..

Thanks for the update holly. As long as he can breathe and he isn't getting any worse he is better off home. You are probably giving him more care than he would be receiving in the hospital because they are so overwhelmed at this point.
Just my opinion, I wouldn't try any meds or inhalers unless you check with the doctor. They may interfere with meds he is taking.
Take care of yourself. When your hubby rests,so should you.

thanks Ruth, I agree, ..I just offered the inhalers because at the time he was struggling to breathe , and I couldn't think what else to do to help although of course I know no-one should use anyone else's meds... but it was just a chance at trying to help him. However you're absolutely correct, he's better off at home being looked after by me while I'm able and he's not worse. .. thanks for your best wishes.. 🌹

I've been thinking of you, @hollydolly
I am sorry your husband's illness is taking as long as this, to get it to go away.

I hope that he starts improving more consistently very soon, and that you can try to take as good care of yourself, as possible too.

@hollydolly So sorry you and your husband have been going through this flu.....must be very scary for you both, on account of Covid 19.....I hope, wish, and pray that it's no more than a regular flu. Please seek medical help AASP, if that is what you both are needing. You both are cared for more than you know.

So sorry to hear you both are going through this terrible sickness. I know what it is like to have a stubborn man. I thought they discarded the mold when mine was created, but I guess not.:p Just don't play yourself out taking care of him.Hope you both soon get back to good health.[[HUGS]]

Well hopefully things have turned a corner now.. day 15 for Mr HD, and he was well enough for me to cut his hair while sitting in the garden in the sun.. Then while he showered and got himself feeling more like himself again...I mowed the both lawns..., did the washing and drying , and general cleaning chores around the house and then made him lunch .

Even sat out myself in the garden for about an hour...and fell asleep in the sun exhausted (still not 100 % well myself so I maybe did a little too much in one day) ... meanwhile hubs didn't do much more , but just sat in his study working on a small hobby for a while, then sat out in the sun for an hour, and because of that this is the first day in just over 2 weeks he's managed to get through the day without returning to bed after a couple of hours.. so fingers crossed, he's on his way to being totally well again...
