Friday the 13th an issue for you?

Friday the 13th only occurs when a month starts on a Sunday.
The next Friday the 13th is December 2024.
Maybe the superstitious among us should be more concerned with Sunday the 1st?

Then there are some who hold Sundays in high religious significance. A religious superstitious person might have a worrying day on every Sunday 1st.

Hang on, doesn't religion and superstition overlap anyway, for some?

Here in southern Ontario, Friday the 13th is celebrated at Port Dover as a "motorcycle gathering " with about 50,000 bike riders showing up for the day. Port Dover is a small commercial fishing port on the north shore of Lake Erie, with a population of about 6,000 people. For more than 50 years the Friday the 13th bike day has been a tradition. The town has a really nice sand beach, a typical main street, and the surrounding area is all farm lands that grow mostly vegetables, especially tomatoes.

The Friday Bike day is the high light of the town's economy, besides what the fishing fleet and the fish processing plant bring in. Vendors come from great distances to sell to the bike people, who spend a tremendous amount of money on food, drink, souvenirs, and trinkets. The town closes off a number of streets, and bikes are parked 5 rows deep. Shuttle buses are provided for free, so bikers can park on the far edge of the town, and ride "downtown on a bus " in stead of walking in.

This year, the Ontario Provincial Police reported that on September the 13th in Port Dover there were a total of 5 arrests. Outlaw clubs are not encouraged to attend. This is a family oriented day. JIMB.

Only time that number became an issue was when my wife had been in labor for 12 hours and it was hoped that she could delay delivery until past midnight so that the baby wouldn't be born on Friday 13th. Of course I am sure that was the farthest thing from her mind.

The superstition that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day has been around for centuries. Research shows that The United States, got it from the UK. People started to make references to it being unlucky without saying why they think it’s unlucky. And because of that, typically what you get is all kinds of wild theories about why Friday the 13th is unlucky. Some speculate that Friday the 13th is unlucky because Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper, or that Knights Templar were condemned on a Friday the 13th.

The scariest thing for me on Friday, December 13th, is to check the bank balance after the lady has been Christmas shopping!

Friday the 13th an issue for you?

No.

It's a day and a number. Throughout the whole of my life, I can't ever remember being afraid of a day or a number.

I once helped someone who was afraid of the number 666. I had to write it down on a document he had, as he felt unable to write it down himself. When I walked away from him, I said something along the lines of, "Feel free to contact me if there are any other numbers you are afraid of, and I'll write them down for you, too."

I can't remember him ever speaking to me after that.

It allegedly goes clear back to the Knoghts Templar in 1307.

”Many attribute its origin to the Knights Templar's arrest in 1307, while others link it to ancient Norse mythology, where 13 gods were invited to a banquet, and chaos ensued.”

Why Friday the 13th Spelled Doom for the Knights Templar | HISTORY

Is it an issue for me? Absolutely not. I have worse things to fret over————

Friday the 13th 1307 the Knights Templar were stopped by King Phillip 4th of France. They were killed, burned, drawn and quartered by the Pope. They have a long and rich history in Europe and were known to be the founders of the banking system. As usual, follow the money and you will learn why they were arrested and killed.
