Hi, everyone.
As the title says, my wife and I have recently retired and moved from the SF Bay Area to SE Minnesota. It's quite a major change -- in culture, climate, economics, etc. We weren't unprepared, of course. We've lived or spent time in many parts of the country and even spent a couple of winters in places that are colder and rougher than here (yup, America has a few of those). And I've known this part of the world for a long time, because of previous extensive business travel.
That said, we are finding the adjustment more stressful than we had imagined. Maybe that's just the way it is as one grows older.
At the moment, I'm dealing with the necessary changes to Medicare supplement and Part D insurance. I've done this sort of thing as a volunteer advocate for many years and I thought I was something of an expert. Of course, the truth is that no one is really a Medicare expert, and I am getting a little "comeuppance" that I probably richly deserve.
It doesn't help that Minnesota is one of a handful of states that received waivers from Medicare and have designed their own, significantly different, menu of supplement plans. But, I'm learning -- and what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?
Anyway, I'm really here to get a better sense of what things are most on the minds of seniors around the US. My previous circle of friends and acquaintances really only included a few in my own age group, so I have a lot to learn about my own generation, today, as well.
Best to all.
