Frozen in place and hunkering down. What's your weather like. Post a pic.

"Snow Predicted" ~ oil on canvas

As usual, we're having weird weather. It's been cold.....well, cold for us....with some rain and wind storms. When I left home Friday morning, I was wearing a jacket. When I came home at 3:00 p.m., it was 80 degrees.

Of course, we Central Floridians don't have blood in our bodies......we have orange juice. That makes us go into hibernation when the wind chill factor falls below 72.

I don't function well below 72.

It's not so much that it's cold here, more that we haven't had many bad winters recently, so we notice it when we get a 'normal' winter.
Currently we're getting random snow/hail showers and a brisk wind making it feel colder outside. Originally, this house would have had an open fireplace in each room, but we only have one remaining in the lounge. I wouldn't have a house that didn't have a working chimney and a fireplace. We have oil fired central heating, but every morning I bring in some logs from the wood store and light the stove in the lounge.

Many of the older houses here have proper fires and so we also still have chimney sweeps. Our fire burns very clean, but every few years we get the chimney swept. They still use the traditional brush, but have a vacuum cleaner and covers to ensure that there's no mess.

...and surprisingly, here in Maine, we're begging for snow! We have a little left on the ground from a previous storm but have had warm days and a lot of rain since then. We're all unhappy - where is our snow?? I live across from a university park-like property and when we do get snow, town children (and university students) bring their sleds to the hill. It is so much fun to hear them laugh! That and I LOVE the snow - a big reason we moved up here.
