Gambling is America's favorite pastime

Glad y'all took a chance on this topic! 🤭

I've gambled a few times in my life, but I'm not a gambler, and I haven't been to a casino in twenty-five years. My husband enjoyed it and won several times. We had a set amount to throw in the toilet, so to speak, and that was it. The deal was that if he hit, we walked away.

My brother-in-law loved to gamble, big time. He got comped meals and rooms in several casinos. My husband and I would meet him at the casinos, and we'd eat and drink for free. Sometimes we'd take in a show. Then my husband and I would stay in the comped room while my BIL was up all night gambling.

I'll never forget, years ago, being in Atlantic City. I was seated while my husband and BIL were at the tables. In walked an older man with a cane, dressed in ripped jeans with holes in his shoes. He couldn't get to the tables fast enough. I wondered if he was gambling to try and win rent money. I just can't fathom how that's logical, if I couldn't afford to pay rent the last thing I'd be doing is throwing what little money I had at the tables. There are plenty of shabby looking people at casinos, but this guy really struck me.

Personally, I don't like gambling, but I'm willing to take advantage of the perks it offers when someone wants to share them with me. Why not? It doesn't cost me a dime.

When I go to Vegas, I just write a certain amount ($50 tops) into the category of "entertainment" and when it's gone, it's gone.

I could always save time and just throw the money at the first casino employee I see.....the end result is the same.win A

I did win a hundred dollars on a dollar bet on a penny slot and I ran right upstairs to the shops and bought a necklace I had been drooling over.

The Riviera had a special area that you paid $20 to play in and you played until you won more than $20 back or lost it all. If you lost it all, you got to pick a prize and some of the items were not bad. I've gotten a weather radio, his and hers watches, Christmas ornaments and a nice denim shirt.

We’ve been to Vegas many times over the years. Great meals and shows and I love the bright lights. If you learn to play the system, you can be treated well even for low rollers like us. I play with what I can afford to lose, though I prefer not to. Unfortunately they’ve downgraded the video poker, which if you played well and I did, you could mostly hold your own and earn the comps. Great shopping in the daytime so my winnings would end up in the mall.
