I've gambled a few times in my life, but I'm not a gambler, and I haven't been to a casino in twenty-five years. My husband enjoyed it and won several times. We had a set amount to throw in the toilet, so to speak, and that was it. The deal was that if he hit, we walked away.
My brother-in-law loved to gamble, big time. He got comped meals and rooms in several casinos. My husband and I would meet him at the casinos, and we'd eat and drink for free. Sometimes we'd take in a show. Then my husband and I would stay in the comped room while my BIL was up all night gambling.
I'll never forget, years ago, being in Atlantic City. I was seated while my husband and BIL were at the tables. In walked an older man with a cane, dressed in ripped jeans with holes in his shoes. He couldn't get to the tables fast enough. I wondered if he was gambling to try and win rent money. I just can't fathom how that's logical, if I couldn't afford to pay rent the last thing I'd be doing is throwing what little money I had at the tables. There are plenty of shabby looking people at casinos, but this guy really struck me.
Personally, I don't like gambling, but I'm willing to take advantage of the perks it offers when someone wants to share them with me. Why not? It doesn't cost me a dime.
