Gene Hackman and wife found dead in their home

It looks to me that the dog was murdered. Someone didn’t want anyone else to have the dog nor for the dog to live out life it was left to live. Dogs strive for life even at the end, as animals will do. Although, if the dog ate some pills off of the floor, well? that was carelessness on the part of a human most likely.

I think there are so many clues and loads of pickled herring.
More investigation and sorting of clues is needed.
It’s quite a compellingly interesting crime mystery!

Unless they just both fell down and hit their heads too hard and the dog died from dehydration and starvation.

We really don’t have enough of the info to discern anything, then again we also have too many clues to make sense of them.
 

I think Gene died of natural causes and his wife committed suicide. Autopsies will tell a lot, even the dog's autopsy.

Sad, we feel we have known these people, they have been in our lives for so long. Feeling badly too about Michelle Tracktenburg (sp?). So young, beautiful, talented. On same day. Sad.
 
To add a bit of levity to this sad and terrible news story, I was reading about how Betsy always made sure Gene was eating properly and watching his health. She wouldn't let him get away with anything, so he had to sneak "cheat meals" when he was out golfing with a friend. I just found that smile-worthy. :)
 
I can speculate, but I can't really explain anything. The autopsy report might help.

They listed some of her credits in her obituary, but I never watched them like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but she caught my attention in the first and only film I ever saw her in, The Ice Princess. I thought it was a beautiful film. It was Disney type thing that followed a common formula, but it was well done. And then she fell off my map again.

Good questions, @chic .... I'm not buying the "pact" thing... he'd probably been outside because of the sunglasses. I just think there's a lot more going to come out. With pills and a heater just "being there" scattered around and the dog in a closet... and the door open like you said... many questions. Thing that's bugging me is that whoever called it in had said they were looking through a window and saw the bodies because they couldn't get in the house. LE gets there and... the door is open?! Lots not adding up. I'm sure the investigations will be thorough.

More food for thought... if she had tried to harm herself, nothing would have worked instantaneously so that the bottle would have been dropped on the spot.
 
When I think of Gene Hackman the first thing I think of are his "Dusty" Hoffman stories. I believe they worked together at Bloomingdale's before either found success in acting.
 
I hate speculating, but wth, I will.

That was a large house with more than one door. If the person, who was described as a workman in one report, went to a locked door and looked in the windows when there was no answer, they wouldn’t have gone any further. Apparently it wasn’t a good sight. The other door that was open doesn’t seem unreasonable. When you know it’s bad, you call the police and wait for them.

Gene was 95 and we have no idea about his mental or physical health. The latest public photos indicated that he was very frail. If his wife died from natural causes or from an overdose, he may not have been able to cope and didn’t know what to do. If he was very upset, he might have fallen.

It‘s a sad ending.

After yesterday's news, I pulled out my copy of Runaway Jury, staring Hackman, Hoffman, and Cusack, all heavy hitters. It's an older film, but I watch it at least once every year. It was just as good last night, as it was the first time. I carefully studied Hackman's skill this time. Yes, he was a very convincing actor that brought his villainous character to life in this film.

You know, when I was younger, I actually didn’t like Gene Hackman. I wasn’t sure why. Years later I realized it was because he played an excellent villain. Most of the movies he’s played in have become some of my favourite movies. Last night I tried to watch one of them but they weren’t free so I passed. Tonight I will try again to watch one of his classic movies. Usually the best movies do require payment with the plan we are on.
I’ll try for Runaway Jury. That is an excellent movie. Oh I can get it. Yayyyyy!

My daughter, 41, is a fan and very sad at her passing. I remember her from Buffy and the movie, Harriet the Spy. Really sad.
 
Unfortunately the medical examiner said it could be a month before they determine the cause of their deaths. This isn't NCIS. By then the public will have forgotten the story. Still, it could be fired back up again if the story is interesting enough.
 
on the rating of plausibility ; I'd say that he died ; she found him dead and killed his favorite dog and herself?
