We can't put out bird seed because of the black bears in the nearby woods. They try to raid the dumpsters.

Good Morning, Kaila & friends .. I hope everyone had a good night's sleep. As for myself, I've been up for awhile already.

Not too much open here, on this holiday Monday. We're going for a drive out in the country to look at the horses and other animals.

Richie, my physical therapist was here today and for the first time..... I walked! I walked without my walker, he was right by me though in case I began to fall. I did use my cane but only lightly. It felt so wonderful. He said I was doing great.

Medusa I'm glad your therapy is going well, and how are you doing Kaila, what's your update? I hope your therapy is going well too. 🌹 🌹 🌹

Good morning and early afternoon, to each of you!

I had a medical appointment with one of my other specialists, today, not the p.t..

I didn't sleep enough overnight so it was difficult to get myself there and back, but I did. And it was helpful.

My p.t. will be tomorrow morning.
I wish my recovery could go faster and steadier, but I have to be patient.

We can’t have bird feeders either. A few years ago it was because it was encouraging rats. Now it’s also to stop the spread of avian flu.

We have had the occasional black bear. Bylaw says we’re not supposed to put our garbage or compost out until the morning of pickup.

Have an issue with feeding wildlife anything around here also. I live in a large comples of buildings and it used to be only birds … now there are squirrels, ferrel cats and an occasional opossum hiding out in the bushes.
People put food out for the cats, even though they are told not to, and that attracts everything else.
With security fencing all around the entire place, we're lucky not to have coyotes roaming in the area.

Trash dumpsters always have to have lids closed now. Didn’t before.
Everything is out there looking for food to survive. It’s a sad situation.

regarding bird feeders and wildlife and the building complexes, etc, were all very interesting. And very understandable issues included.

We haven't ever had bears in this area, though they are very common in other parts of the region.
In our spot, only squirrels to a bit of a degree, but not extremely.
 
A day or 2 ago, we got our hummingbird feeder out.
It's a small one, put in a different location, than the regular birdseed feeder.

Are any of you able to have one of those?

Some years we've gotten lots of hummers.
Other years, not as many, but any sighting of those magical and teensy long distance travelers, it's worth the extra efforts. When we can manage it.

Hummingbird feeders don't attract rodents, but bears???🤔maybe?
 
Good Morning Everyone!

My friend who lives in FL puts out 3 feeders with a trail cam at each one. Then she post the videos on her FB page. She has at least 4 different bears coming to them. Plus bobcats, raccoons, squirrels, armadillos, rabbits, opossums, wild turkeys, coyotes, etc. These feeders are not very far from her house. I did not want bears coming to my house when I lived on my homestead before moving here. One did come and killed my cat. I wanted to move after that and did. So the bear is my least favorite critter.

Oh! I so enjoy seeing wildlife cams here in Florida. The bears make me think of the Ocala National Forest area.

Recently it was on the news from FL, (maybe Tampa news, not sure) that a man and his dog were both killed by a black bear. They said that the bear population had gotten out of control in FL and in Oct. they are going to have a bear hunting season. My friend's bears are so funny when they are eating from her feeding pans. They lay down and roll around and look under the tray so of course, dump what is in it. But I would not want them at my house! Fun to watch though!

Yes, I saw that news report. The sad thing is, too many new developments being built and the wildlife are losing homeland. I don't know if it's so much that the bear population has gotten out of control as it is the people population! lol
 
@katlupe The bear that killed the man happened in the Naples area.
I also enjoy watching the wildlife cam. Some of my neighbors have them and show it on our community message board. We have a lot of wildlife around us, including occasionally a bear. Our community has a vast number of preserve land as well as nature trails. I once was face to face with a large bobcat. Nothing happened to me but I have to say that I was quite unease, lol!

I saw on the news that they want to open up the bear hunt again in the Orlando area. I really dislike that idea. I really like them.

That's nice that they share the cam footage! I bet the bobcat encounter was startling. lol I once saw a bear when biking. It was quite a ways off, so I made a u-turn. :ROFLMAO:
