Gentle posts for gentle folks

Good Morning, Kaila and Friend. πŸ€— :coffee:πŸ‚

It's raining here today, which is good as it's been a little hot and dry, lately. It will be a bit splashy on the walks, but that's okay. β˜”πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

Husband is working a mid-shift, so I'll get him back early, and boyfriend is not working today, which is nice.

It's a regular day for me and I'm thankful for that.

Wishing everyone here a lovely day.

Have you and Lucius recovered from the early morning grooming appointment?😁
And does he look happy and comfortable?🀩🐢

I enjoyed your use of word splashy as an adjective. 🀭
I guess that means I could use an adverb form. πŸ˜‰
You and Lucius walked splashily along.

Hello Kaila
( & friends. )
Good afternoon, wonderful and dear ones,

I got through my dentist appointment yesterday, and set up a treatment plan there, for the rest of 2025.
I feel good about making the progress on that. About as good as one could feel, about hated and expensive dental work.
πŸ˜ŠπŸ€¨πŸ™„β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜„πŸ˜

I noticed on the way home, that more trees than I'd expected, are suddenly turning red and yellow. 🀩

Beautiful autumn views... but seems way too early!

I reminded myself that it is actually mid September in New England. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜
Oh!
Right on time, I suppose. πŸ€πŸ˜†πŸ˜„πŸ˜…

I'm feeling a bit better today, than I was all week long, so I managed a few small manageable tasks and very brief walk outdoors. πŸ‘πŸ˜€

I hope to go back and reply to some of the post topics from the past few days, but we'll see how it goes. Eating and napping are coming soon.

I’m glad your dentist appointment was successful. I’m not fond of the dentist either.
I’m glad to read that you went for a walk outside. This is good news. πŸ₯• πŸ₯• πŸ₯• πŸ₯• πŸ₯•

We are busy doing all kinds of cannng.
We bought an electric pressure canner a week ago and my husband made a batch of cooked pork for the dogs. They get pork, beef, and sometimes turkey. In the past they’ve even gotten moose which they’ve liked.

Now we are making blueberry jam. We don’t have enough blueberries to make jam so today purchased 10 pounds of wild blueberries from Milan Farms , Nova Scotia.

Everyday there’s been something being canned. We are picking a bucket full of tomatoes everyday. We put them in trays to sit in the window cell to ripen in our sunroom.
We also picked a bunch of green tomatoes to make some chow chow which is like green tomato relish. It’s great on potatoes.

Green tomatoes for making relish.

So interesting, @PeppermintPatty

Those wild blueberries look scrumptious.
Years ago we used to pick them and make pies and cobbler.
Both wild ones, and high bush cultivated types.
We froze them in freezer bags. Yum .

For many years, We also grew vegetables at a community garden that I had helped to get started.
Loved frying the green tomatoes. 😁

I used to love teaching new gardeners.

We’ve always picked our own blueberries also. This is the first time we’ve purchased them. They were on sale for $14 for 5 pounds so my husband couldn’t resist.
Blueberry cobbler is delicious.

We have already made our first batch of green tomatoes / chow chow for this year. It’s a family specialty.

I bet you were a great teacher Kaila. I would welcome being taught by you at any point in time.

He is comfy and happy. :) Lucius is generally a happy pup. Thank you for asking after him, @Kaila. πŸ€—

Oh My Gosh! Can I just tell you, did Lucius and I ever walk splashily along!! When I took him out for first walk yesterday morning, it was absolutely pouring! I mean pouring!

It was pretty funny, actually, as there I was, getting soaked as my umbrella was only really protecting my head at that point, walking in the torrential rain, saying my freaking morning affirmations! :ROFLMAO: "Everything I need is within and around me." :ROFLMAO:

Poor Lucius, though; he hates the rain and he was soaked. I had to dry him off with towels when we got home. Which is not fun because Lucius thinks it's a game and tries to bite the towels. Well, I suppose it is fun for him. Silly puppy. 🐢

Nice of you to ask, Kaila. πŸ€—

Sorry to hear about what happened with your bird safe zone. :( Did you get some good rest in today?

@PeppermintPatty , let me say.....I've always admired your growing, canning, cooking/baking, photos and general creativity whether you're playing the sax or crafting with wood.

You really make the most of life with your talents and many interests. Never change.
I second this! @PeppermintPatty, you impress and inspire with your creativity.

@Kaila do you feed the Woodpeckers too?

I know what you mean @Kaila, glad you feel good about your progress there.

How's the salmon running these days? Any new recipes? 🐟🐟🐟
Thank you, RR, about the dental. πŸ₯°

Last time we stocked up on salmon, we cut it into smaller portions so we could stretch it out to last longer. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜„
It seemed to work. 😁πŸ₯³

Otherwise we just cook it the same simple way. Easy and quick.
Just a simmer to steam it, plain.
We both need it to be extra soft .
Olive oil or light margarine is enough. It's fresh so it tastes great. πŸŸπŸŸπŸŸπŸ˜€

Yes, we let them all join in.
We don't have lots of woodpeckers, and they're not causing damage or a racket. πŸ˜„

Every few days or more, We get a couple of the cute little downy woodpecker type, males and females.
Occasionally we get the larger hairy woodpeckers, but rarely.
They all have amazing markings.

We get black- capped chickadee, here.
Are they common near you?

A tip for the mouse problems mentioned earlier- I stumbled on this fix accidentally, but hey it works.

When we lived in grandma's house, she had a few come in the basement.
There was also a water leak from a plumbing issue, which I kept a 5 gallon bucket under and emptied daily.
I noticed we started having a mouse in the bucket most mornings, not quite half full of water.
Apparently they got trapped in the water and couldn't get out of the bucket.
If they are in there long they will swell up, but a trip outside to dump it in the field and all was good.

Good morning Kaila and all from a horrible wet morning here. I don't think that Rocco and I will be venturing very far at all!

@Kaila, yes those 'defective' decks of Old Maid cards... very strange. And, to crown it all off, grandson came round yesterday and beat me at Scrabble. πŸ˜†

@Kaila and @RadishRose -no, not bought the laptop yet but am hoping to go into town tomorrow and see if I can get one. I really don't like using this computer, apart from it playing up at times, it's not comfortable sitting here, I'd be much happier with a laptop on my knee.

@Radish Rose, you asked about the rug, it is called a smudge rug and is very very soft pastel shades of green sort of blending into each other with a slight golden brown thread running through it occasionally.

It's taken me long enough to save up for these things, so once I've got the laptop then that's the end of my spending!

@Medusa - Rocco goes to the groomer at the end of this month. He used to go to one groomer regularly, who was excellent, but sadly, she's very ill and unable to continue grooming. Then began the search to find another groomer. Majority weren't taking any new 'clients' but eventually one was found but none of us were impressed with the results. Thankfully, son's partner's aunt (who has Rocco's brother) has managed to get Rocco a place with her groomer. She does an excellent job with Rocco's brother and now a regular booking can be made for Rocco.

Good morning, Kaila and all who gather here! Friday at last. Mine will be a quiet and "take it easy" kind of day... twisted wrong reaching for something yesterday and pulled/tore/stretched (whatever!) something in my side. No problems with that, though... it was time for a do-nothing day! First on the agenda is finding my heating pad. :giggle:
