Gentlemen, do you find you eat less than you did?

I have found as an older lady that even though I have a good appetite, I eat a lot less and be full. I wonder if this common for men as they age. There are many of us that still live a very active lifestyle. I am wondering if you can still eat the amount you ate in the past. ?Even if I like a dinner I am having I find I can't eat the same with gusto. For example. I used to be a pizza fiend but now I struggle getting past the first piece.

My husband was still young when he was diagnosed with cancer. That did not slow down his food intake. In fact, I think that is why he did so well through cancer. That is also I dont worry about weight. If we get sick any extra weight can be a good thing in a serious illness.

Enjoying food, I think is a good thing for most of us. If a doctor says we should cut back or quit certain things I get it. Other than that, I think we should enjoy tasty, somewhat healthy foods we cook at home. I worry about the older of our generation that do not enjoy the limited food choices they make. It seems that we are forced to adhere to limited diet just to have a few months longer on earth.

For me, that is not a good choice. I want to find happiness and comfort in my older years. I am tired of this, don't do this and that to live longer. What is the point of that? We are all going to die at some point. There is no escape, I just choose to enjoy things in my everyday life. I have quit smoking, having a glass or two of wine but I will continue to enjoy foods that some think are not healthy. If my husband was still here, he would not settle for less than the delicious meals I made for us. A person can't be happy living on kale and spinach.

What do the men have to share? Do you still want to eat what every you want when you want? Are you upset or angry at others that restrict or don't cook for you any longer? Part of my life was cooking and making my husband and son happy.

Yes, I can not eat like I used to. My parents always said I ate like I had a hollow leg. :) Then I ate what I wanted, and stayed around 155 until about 50 and started gaining weight. I got up to 205. Then about 6 years ago went on a Keto diet, and lost 40 lbs. . I gained about 10 lbs back over the last few years. Now, I can not eat the amount of food I once could/wanted to. I am losing weight...down to 160. Now I have to watch getting to thin.! :)

I eat a lot less than I used to. I don't get as hungry as I used to. Most days, I don't feel hungry at all. That started about 2 1/2 years ago (I just turned 69).

I eat because I have to, and it doesn't take much to fill me up. I'm not nearly as active as I was just a few years ago, so I suppose I only need a fraction of the calories. But I do try to keep my weight up, though. I don't like being skinny.

Thanks guys!! I just wondered if this was common for men as well as women. For me, it is aggravating, I eat less but still gain weight. I need to find a way to increase my physical activity so I am at least on an even playing ground.

Me too. I actually had to learn to put smaller quantities on my plate. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I started noticing that I wasn't eating everything that I was putting on my plate and it took a while to break the habit of piling it on the way I used to.

I worked a very physical warehouse job in my early 20's.

Let's just say I could inhale a medium pizza in one sitting. Now? I'll have 2 pieces at most.

Used to eat more than I do now. No particular reason - -just eat 'til I feel full. My wife is an excellent cook , enjoys it as almost a hobby. She has cooking and food books galore and I'm the beneficiary of her knowledge.
She's big on healthy foods and finds substitutes for salt, sugar, and the like. I'm 6 ft. and stay between 205 and 215 - -down about 30 lbs. from my working days.
She's kept me going from age 20 to 90 so she must be doing something right ! :p
