Getting rid of a gallbladder

Wrigley's

Surgery is in the morning and I'll be home by afternoon. I've had surgery only once before, when a doctor took one of my testicles. That was 40 years ago. They said this surgery is no big deal, and I'm not nervous or anything, but I'm wondering how long recovery takes. I hate down-time.

If anyone out there had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, how was the recovery? I was told a few days. That true?

Never had a gallbladder removed Wrigley's, but wishing you a smooth operation and speedy recovery! Take care!

I had a friend who had her gallbladder removed. She said she felt somewhat bloated for several days, a bit tired, but recovered rapidly.

I had mine out in 1992. It was supposed to be same-day surgery, but because the surgery ended up being at 4:00 p.m. instead of 9:00 a.m. (and what a LONG day that was!), they kept me overnight. I had it on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. I would have liked to take a few more days but we were in the middle of a big project. I was a bit tender for a few days but that was about it. No long-term complications other than a little digestive discomfort until my body adjusted.

I had mine out back in the dark ages, in 1966. It was a pretty big deal then, and I was in the hospital for about a week. No laparascopic anything; I still have the big scar to show for it.

However, there were no aftereffects, and I have been able to eat pretty much anything I want my whole life. I'm sure it's a much simpler procedure now, probably requiring a couple of days of rest and then
back to normal.

Ok thanks everyone.

I've healed really fast from stitched-up lacerations, and when I broke my leg, the dr was surprised how quickly it healed. But that was all a long time ago.

I'm supposed to show the apartment all this week. I guess I can let my new assistant do that if I have to. I don't want to hobble or look like I'm in pain. My lady friend said she'd bring dinners over if I need, so that's covered.

A few days is no big deal. A week would be a real bummer, but it is what it is.

Best wishes on your surgery. I hated the gas they bloat you up with. I had mine out mid 40's. Recovery was fast though I kind of felt strange if I over did it the first week. I couldn't lay on my right side for a few nights. I was sore but not really in pain.

Hoping you are well fast.

Goodluck with your surgery and recovery. I had mine out in 1995 laparoscopily . I was up and about day two and by week was feeling good. I did not have any discomfort or a upset tummy.. Bright Blessings

Best wishes for a trouble-free surgery and speedy recovery. My step-daughter had her gall bladder out several years ago, a laparoscopic procedure which only left a small scar. By contrast, her mother(my wife) had her gall bladder removed back in the 70s; she has a scar about a foot long across her abdomen.

Thanks again, all.

I didn't get home until after 9pm! Took longer than usual for the anesthesia to wear off I guess. Got home, had a nap, had a bagel w/cream cheese, feeling ok. My belly looks like it got pelted with bird-shot (that's SHOT) and it's a little sore. As expected.

Glad everything went well and that you are home!
Lol eating your routine bagel eh?

Yep. I did. But I didn't get to have one that morning, see. No food after midnight. By the time I got home I hadn't eaten for 21 hours and all I could think about was that bagel!

Do you think I have a problem?

Hi W! So glad things went well, and you are home. Rest, and pamper yourself for the next little while.

Thank you Shali. It only hurts when I cough, and I was coughing because they stuck a tube down my throat. I showed the apartment this morning, twice. Gonna kick back the rest of the day.

I had my Gall Bladder removed 40 years ago, but one year before they started doing the keyhole procedure. As a result I have what looks like a saber cut scar below my lower right rib cage. When asked by curious children about the scar I tell them it was from a sword fight. BTW I haven't had Heart Burn since, no matter what I eat.

Considering you were so focused on having that bagel, I would say you're having a good recovery. Rest up, and feel all better, soon.
