Good job. I flew for United for 33 years. On our checklist for dumping fuel, it was recommended to get above 10,000 feet, but above 15,000 feet was better. The extra altitude allows the fuel to evaporate. I only ever dumped fuel once and that was over the Pacific. I was flying from San Diego (SAN) up to San Francisco (SFO) when my nose wheel on the landing gear wouldn’t drop. The B-757 has a fuel jettison valve on it, like most big planes.I LOVE British Airways as well as 777s! My ex husband was a 777 as well as 787 pilot.
He took off from Chicago one day, clear skies.
The "Friendly skies of United".
They blew an engine on takeoff and of course they were full of fuel as they were headed for Heathrow, UK.
To save lives the pilots MUST get to a much higher altitude, dump fuel (it atomizes at high altitude) and land of course.
One does not want to land with one engine and full of fuel in Chicago.
He and his crew, passengers landed safely. Thanks to the US Air Force military pilot training ex-DH had.
He called me after the flight and said: "I am glad I packed an extra pair of uniform pants...we almost died today".

A Marine, too?Good job. I flew for United for 33 years. On our checklist for dumping fuel, it was recommended to get above 10,000 feet, but above 15,000 feet was better. We were flying a Boeing 757. We had a 2 hour layover before flying home to Dulles. (IAD)
I am a retired Marine, but I never flew during my time on active duty.A Marine, too?
