I use the Walgreens drive-thru due to mobility problems . So yesterday, knowing I had prescriptions ready, I go. Only to find a big sign in the window saying ... drive-thru closed due to staffing problems.
{Hell they advertise delivery on TV} ... yeah right.

So I then think well I'll try again tomorrow and I head for Taco-Bell .... only to find a sign on the speaker post that says ... we are closed due to a staff shortage ....

So then I go to KFC, where I find a sign on the speaker post saying .... please excuse our slow response due to a staffing shortage !

What in the hell is going on ?? Doesn't anyone work / want to work any longer ??

Yes I know I sound like the grumpy old man ....... That I am, but considering so many other things happening , this country is sliding down hill .... and the bottom is getting close.

My daughter works at CVS and yes there is a staffing problem. Younger people don't want to work like I did years ago. I worked 3 jobs trying to raise my kids by myself and I could not get child support due to their dad having mental problems. You do what you have to do when you have kids. Its different now.

The state police has problems getting new recruits. We’re talking about jobs that pay over 6 figures after 5 years on the job. Maybe the qualifications are too high. You must have a college degree and a spotless background check. I think the starting pay right now is close to $90,000.

Same problem here. I went to Subway (first time in years), found the front door locked with a sign to use the drive thru. When I got to the window I asked why and was told about the staffing problem.

It's kind of hard to order at the Subway drive thru. They have all these options and you can't see them to decide. It's like going to a Chinese buffet drive thru and not being able to see what they offer. Anyway, I won't be going back any time soon. My hot, Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was ready by the time I got from the speaker to the window. No way way was it prepared fresh in that amount of time, and it looked it.

I believe part of the staffing issue is an over saturation of businesses. There are so many places to work, restaurants, retail stores, speciality stores, factories, gyms, fast food, medical facilities, and hundreds of small businesses that employ three or four people.

Sure I think part of the problem is it's too easy for people not to work, that covers kids and adults, but I also think there's simply not enough willing workers to fill all the available jobs.

I have also been reading that banks in my area are closing branches. People get very nervous when they see banks closed, regardless if they are branches or not. My neighbor, who is an older gentleman, was talking to me and he said ‘Well, that’s just the start of it. That bank has been there for 45 years and now they’re closing it? That’s not a good sign.” Like I said, people get nervous when banks or even branches start closing. All together, it said in the paper that about 15 branches of the different banks are set for closing in 2024. I figure most of that is due to a lot of people using online banking.

I think it is due to all the strikes and people being "not heads". Working is a good ethic and I believe once a door is closed for one person that just opens the door for a person who is willing to work. We will see.

NO. The staffing shortages are due to not hiring enough deliberately on the part of corporations. Walgreen's, CVS are having work stoppages begun by the workers themselves to address this. They need to be unionized.

Corporations don't want to pay more salaries or benefits. It has nothing to do with unwillingness to work. Corporations only interested in bottom line and quarterly reports.

When most of us worked we did not have this problem of insane greed on the part of our employers.

OH MY!!!!! In Texas they are not doing this. I asked them because I immediately thought where am I going to get my refills. My insurance stopped me from getting them refilled at the Wal Mart pharmacy and so I went to Walgreens.

I don't know...it seems like greed is as old as humanity.

Yeah, I'd need to see the goodies to pick and choose

The philly cheesesteak is my favorite base, but I load it up
I go to Florida with a friend of mine that lives near me from time to time. We were down playing golf about a month ago and on the way home he asked me if I would like to stop and get a really good Philly cheesesteak. Of course, I was up for that. We were in a small town named Dunedin. We pulled into a small outdoor mall and there was a steak shop there named Delco’s, which stood for Delaware County, which is just outside of Philadelphia.

They have the very best Philly cheesesteak that I had tasted while in Florida. Inside the store, they have all kinds of Phillies memorabilia on the walls. Dunedin is only about 2 miles from Clearwater, which is the spring home of the Phillies. I watched the man making the steaks on the grill. He had this huge pile of beef, a huge pile of onions and a big pot of sauce. You can get the sandwich made the way you like. I had mine made with meat, easy on the onions, (I like them, but my gut doesn’t) extra cheese and the sauce on the side.

When I let the chef put the sauce on, I usually get too little or too much, so I just get it on the side. I got a large, but took half of that back to the house. Way too much for me at one sitting. As soon as my wife smelled it, she reheated it and ate the other half. Lesson learned.

No, sorry, its the government driving all of this. They NEED people dependant on the government for their day-to-day living. The government needs to control the financials, the health, and jobs. Once they have all of those 'locked up' then Socialism is firmly entrenched and the Capitalist society is no longer.

Unions are so much of the problem. They don't care about companies, they don't care about the consumer, they only care about soaking as much as they can out of the companies to the point of bankruptcy, then the government (taxpayers) steps in and bails them out. Unions don't care that working people now need to pay 10,20, 30K more for transportation. They only care about their paycheck. Unions are the scourge of society.

To blame companies is another fallacy. Many seniors rely on their meager savings to last throughout their life time. Many seniors get income from their investments. Those investments come from companies. If those companies are going bankrupt, seniors savings are lost. Corporations answer to the stakeholders, the investors. I want them to invest in AI, automation as much as possible BECAUSE of unions and their greediness. What seniors wouldn't like to get a good income return on their money as they get older. Or seniors should sacrifice so unions can get richer?
You are talking like the evening news tells you what to say.
Just today, the Wall Street Journal has an article on how corrupt unions really are and what they care about. Why are union memberships dwindling? Because they are good? Doubt it.

I left AT&T decades ago. When asked in the exit interview, I said because AT&T was a union shop. That was the only reason. I saw how morally corrupt the union was. Years, later I went back as management. Why? Because they were closing down the facility because it wasn't financially stable, because of the inflated union wages. I was brought in with other business consultants to close it down smoothly.
Do I feel bad? No, the union did it to themselves.

Demographic collapse deniers are busy trying to create the impression that no problem exists. They can't escape the facts any more, so instead they try to spin the statistics to make it appear to be 30 more years away than it is... when they talk about it at all.

There are simply fewer young people per old person than we've had for a long, long time. Oldsters live longer and birth rates have been down for decades now.

Is it me, or what?
We don't have enough people to make our economy work, so we build a wall to keep people out, and from taking those needed jobs??????
Yes, MS13 are not taking these jobs,
Criminals are not taking these jobs,
murderers are not taking these jobs,
terrorists are not taking these jobs,
drug smugglers are not taking these jobs
Sex traffickers are not taking these jobs.....need I go on?

I do recall reading somewhere that Walgreens is having some issues and I can't remember if it said some of the stores are closing down.

Also, because of the pandemic there are a great deal of people finding work from home jobs and many that are unemployed. Nobody wants to come work in these places that require hard labor. They want easy sit down jobs. They want jobs designed to fit their schedules and lifestyles.

The applicant pickins are so bad that places like where I work, you're lucky if they make it through orientation and actually show up for their first day. Some walk out after a week to 30 days.

These places are so short staffed they're having to do things that are lessening the amount of customer service. Things hafta be eliminated in order to put those people somewhere else to keep things running. From personal experience I hafta say it's been awful!
