Gonna stay up and watch the new year come in ?

I haven't stayed up till midnight to watch a new year come in since Hector was a pup but lo and behold the new year always seems to arrive just fine without me.

Do you stay up to watch the New Year come in ?

I am with you, Ike. I am usually asleep by then. All of the shows that are on are not of much interest to us. But who knows...maybe this year we will hang around just to see. Maybe this year it won't come in.

Not intentionally. If I'm up, I'm up. If not, I don't care.

Gone are the nights of dinner and dancing with a mob of couples as well as the small dinner parties of 6 to 8.

Gone also, are the nights of the best-friend-couple coming over for dinner with jammies and robes to wear after dinner to watch tv with us, also in jammies and robes.

Gone too, are the post-divorce over-nights of babysitting while grown son and wife started the same round of New Year's Eve traditions. Grandchildren now grown.

Just glad to see another year in reasonably good health.

Well, Ike, I am with you! I gave up the partying on New Years Eve years ago. I figure the New Year will come regardless if I am awake or not!

Same here Ike, I haven't stayed up till midnight for New Years since Hector was just a gleam in his daddy's eyes! :hair: I used to watch the Dick Clark special on TV to see the ball drop at Times Square, but now that Dick is gone, I have no interest to watch that anymore. Come midnight I'll be snug in my bed with hubby and the furkids. Come Sunday morning I'll be bright eyed and bushy tailed, looking forward to a great 2017!

I don't go out to parties any more either but will have a glass or two of wine with my boyfriend to celebrate and probably be out like a light by midnight. Happy new year everybody if you go out be careful and stay safe

Since Hawaii is 5 hours behind the East Coast, I can be sound asleep by 7:05 and not miss a thing.

I have no interest in staying up that late to ring in the New Year. I'm with maggiemae. I figure the New Year will come whether I up to watch it or not. :playful:

I'm usually awake at midnight anyway, but I wouldn't miss it. I like to watch the New Year coming in across the country. I don't like going out on New Years unless it's to a neighbor's house nearby. I'd rather have a couple friends join us over here. For me, it's kind of a ritual like turkey on Thanksgiving or fireworks on the 4th of July. And I love champagne! :beerandwhistle:

I'm a night owl anyway, so I'll be up at the magic hour. The Spousal Equivalent will toddle off to bed at 9:30 as usual. I'll watch the ball drop and then go in and drop a New Year's kiss on him and he'll mutter some incomprehensible utterance to me. Ahhh, young romance......

After that, there will be no use trying to sleep because the #@^!*#'s in our neighborhood will set off cherry bombs until 2 a.m. They've been "practicing" all week.

Ya know....I used to have a life.

I'll be up at midnight. I'm invited to a party but may not go. It's here at the apt. complex so I don't have to drive home. I'm not in the mood to see people getting drunk any more, though. A quiet night watching the ball drop on Times Sq. and a glass of wine is probably what I'll do.

not intentionally but I expect to be woken up by fireworks
That's my response as well. I'm usually trying to calm down a pet and don't get much sleep at all. I live in the metro Atlanta area where personal fireworks use to be illegal but for reason they changed that a few years back. The next day or so you hear in the local news all the problems associated with it-- injures, maybe fires, lost pets, injured pets, etc. It wasn't like they didn't have impressive, professional, and relatively safe firework displays at several outdoor venues for those that want to enjoy that because they have that, but now every yahoo that wants to can blast away with fireworks that sound like cannons going off.

I'm an early bird, so staying up to watch the clock tick midnight is highly doubtful. If I have a beer, or glass of wine, I'll be lucky to stay up past nine!

Yes. I'll be awake and celebrate the New Year arriving with my husband, always do. At the midnight hour, we'll hear gunfire as most shoot off their rifles or handguns in celebration.

I am. never in bed by midnight so yes I will be up and yes I will open the doors and make a lot of noise on the front porch and I will laugh as I remember doing that with first my parents as a small child then for many years with my husband..good memories.

Yes I will be up to see in the New Year.

Being a Scot, I feel that it is my duty to cover for
all you folk who are going to bed early.

If you can get BBC Alba TV on your computer you
should watch it from 11.30PM UK Time, it is usually
very good, mainly in Gaelic with English sub-titles,
or maybe English speaking, it will be a ceilidh from
Stirling Castle.

That is what I will be watching from the old to the
New Year.

Mike.

Here in New England we don't usually set off fireworks or shoot guns on New Year's Eve.

Some of us however, have been known to go outside and bang pots and pans together in the old days, LOL!
