Got A Red Light Camera Infraction

I blew through a red light apparently. A $330.00 ticket. The City Collection Agency just phoned me today demanding I pay it. I told them it was Christmas and I wasn't going to pay their 'cash grab ticket' anytime soon. Then I hung up on them.

I'll deal with this in the New Year.

Speed Cams in work zones are getting quite a bit of publicity in New York right now.

If the camera catches you speeding in a construction zone it generates a fifty dollar ticket.

The net proceeds from the tickets are to be used to improve work zone safety.

IMO there is nothing wrong with them if they help people to modify their behavior.

It seems like more and more that many people seem to believe that it’s ok to break the law as long as they don’t get caught.

@Aunt Bea

Would you be okay if the City came into your house with cameras? You know, for safety. You have nothing to hide, right? It wouldn't bother you one bit.

I'm all for increased use of remote CCTV cameras to catch a reasonable range of specific cast in law, negative urban human activities. The last few decades the experiment of "the honor system" and respect for reasonable laws has with certainty not been accepted increasingly by so many that a higher level of deterrence is logically now called for. Especially aggravating has been the greatly widening wealth poor gap.

Beyond the freeway entrance/exit ramps now being installed in the SFBA after being monkey-wrenched by libertarian opposing groups for years given the usual 1984 scare arguments, we ought move ahead wisely. Especially within retail and public establishments where thieves are bullying the public by inhibiting what law enforcement is allowed to do lest civil rights possibly be violated. With adequate guidelines, transparency, and oversight technologies have potential to be used for society's benefit. Unless we are allowed to use technology in kind to defeat malware and technology criminals, society is doomed to increasing eventual dystopian anarchy. An embarrassing net condemnation of those leading humans

But of course we must be aware how such might be abused that this electronic telecom age provides power affect to that end. Even for say being caught on camera littering, tossing trash. We don't need a police state but rather just enough for the sake of common sense flexibly.

The real problem is scofflaw culture. People have lost all pride in themselves, and don't even know their neighbors and so don't give a damn how they are viewed by the community. This is called urbanization and why such poor attitudes developed on the coasts.

No amount of nannying is going to change this. Egad, look at the UK! I can't believe people think they really want to live within Metropolis or some other take on life behind the Iron Curtain. My guess is that they don't - but they want you to.

A camera is fair and unbiased, so that's a positive. It also cuts down on police traffic stops that snarl traffic and eliminates interaction w cops which is ALWAYS a plus. Once a red light camera becomes known behavior changes very quickly. Best of all one can get a ticket that doesn't jack your insurance rates.

It's a shame that a large portion of the ticket revenue goes to the supplier of the equipment and software.

My son in law got one of these due to a large truck in front of him obscuring his view. And being on vacation far from home he had to pay it. But he could have challenged it otherwise and possibly got a warning instead.

I got a huge ticket for my son parking the wrong side once on his car which was coregistered in my name. They froze my ability to register any other car, as if I were some type of criminal. The ticket blew off his car so they just kept increasing it. Nothing could be done, they said, so I got my local and state representatives involved and also produced the weather report citing near 40 mph wind gusts. The ticket was dropped. So you can fight city hall, once in awhile anyway.

I'm conflicted when it comes to red light cameras. We once had them in Dallas and I got a ticket for not completely stopping (only pausing) at a red light before turning right. I could see there was no traffic coming. I don't remember the amount but it was outrageous.

Dallas removed all of them, and now I see 2 or 3 cars running red lights every time I drive. If only the infractions could be issued for people who are truly a risk to other drivers. 🤷‍♂️ But no, of course Texas decided it was overreach so everyone is now exempt.

Ha ... Ha ... Ha ... Ha ... Ha Ha................ ... (y) U are gonna spend the holiday incarcerated.

Love the ones that are intentionally trying to photo cause most all City employees run them..

I was at a Red light today on a State Highway and 3 Suv in a row turned left with out a turn signal at a 4 way. Altoona dude would of shot all of them..

I've seen little evidence of any attempt to enforce the traffic laws around here. It's like the Wild West out on the streets.
It’s similar here unless the police dept gets some sort of grant to form a special task force.

Our police force responds to calls and attempts to keep a lid on things but it is not proactive about enforcement.

it seems that most of the traffic/vehicle laws are now seen as an unfair burden on the poor so things like expired insurance, tags, and safety inspections are no longer ticketed along with things like missing headlights, noisy mufflers, tinted windows, missing license plates, etc…

Texas banned these traffic cameras...it was seen as an overreach...if most of you who support this Orwellian crap would stop being sheep and start standing up for yourself, we'd get these cash grabs out of our faces.

I see Alberta has just shut down 70 percent of its traffic cameras...the people are fed up with these City cash cows. If more people had an attitude like me, we'd have a freer, fairer society.
