Got in a car accident today

You've mentioned you bruise easily. I'll bet your elbow looks a mess.

No matter how defensively you drive, sounds like you couldn't have avoided this one. Such a bummer about your truck. I hope that idiot's insured and you at least get enough compensation for a down payment on something decent. Might be a good idea to take pictures of your elbow over the next few days...for their insurance company.

You're probly sore as hell by now, but I hope you're doing ok otherwise.
Keep us posted.

I overheard one Highway Patrol officer tell the other that the other driver admitted going about 60. But, then she told the officer that she didn't remember anything...
I guess not if she was DWI.
she decided she needed to be transported to the hospital
Blood alcohol tests will be completed in the hospital, even if the police did not test. Depending on the circumstances and if this goes to court, police can, in some states, subpoena records of hospital blood work.

I'm so sorry that happened to you Nathan! I'm glad you were not hurt any worse than you were, however. Airbags can cause injuries in and of themselves. I hope you get what's due from the insurance company. Do you have another vehicle?

I do, my wife's 2010 Subaru that we hung on to, after getting her a 2025 Subaru that has the latest safety features. The 2010 Subaru is still in excellent shape, and I enjoy driving it. I will need another truck, but I'm not in a hurry, may even consider an older truck that's been restored.

@Nathan, I haven't been on SF much lately. I just saw your post. How's the elbow (and the back pain) at this point? Improving, I hope. Speedy recovery, Nathan.
Hey JBR, just my left elbow, I don't know what it hit, but the joint is swollen and a big patch of skin got ripped off, making a bloody oozey wound that's difficult to care for. Then this pesky Spring cold....

Things are pretty much coming together, felt well enough to go to the gym today for my seniors Active Aging class. Elbow is still on-the mend, so still babying it.
USAA completed the claim process, will be paying more than I expected.

Got the final Crash Report, the narrative is accurate and true, as I experienced the accident. The other driver was cited for violation of California Vehicle Code 22107 CVC, the offense of making an unsafe lane change...IE, driving on the sidewalk. She was also cited for driving without a valid driver license, a status of suspended due to medical reasons...whatever that means. From various sources I found that she had a background of drug addiction and incarceration, for over much of her adult life. Sad, she's in her mid-fifties and still really doesn't have control of her life.

I'm glad for that.

Don't let that elbow stiffen up. Don't over do it, but do make sure to move it some every day.

I know you know better than to do anything remotely like this, but I'm reminded of an aunt whose elbow was injured (severe hyperflexion) and she wore a brace + sling for at least 5 or 6 months! By the time she finally took the thing off, her arm was frozen at a 90-degree angle ...for the rest of her life.
