Graveyard Headstones

My parents' one didn't take very long -- maybe a couple weeks at the outside; it was nothing exotic, basically just required the name(s) to be put on it.

The wife and I have decided to go with Cremation. Much less worry about buying or reserving a spot of dirt in the cemetery. If we had bought a plot and then moved across the country, what then. Anyway for us the Cremation is our choice. Not planning on any services. Death, notify the crematorium, and let it be done. The family can then have a service or party, depending on how they feel.

It took a few weeks for my dad's headstone to be ready and placed. They used to allow the purchase of cemetery plots where I live before a death and you could purchase your stone and have it ready on your plot, but they no longer allow that here. You have to wait for a loved one to die then hurry and buy whatever plot is available and get a stone on it. So, it takes a while where I live. It's hard on the family. You're in a state of profound grief and you have to go through all this. It was so much easier in my grandparents time.
 
The Spousal Equivalent already has his gravestone purchased and in place in the family cemetery, just waiting for the death date to be chiseled on. I'm creeped out by the whole thing as most of my family (myself included) go for the cremation and scattering route. I refused to go look at it. I told him I would make arrangements for his burial there but if he expects a three-ring circus of horrors like the other funerals in his family, he needs to go look for another girlfriend.
 
It took about two months for the headstone to be placed on my husband's plot.
It depends on the weather and the time of year. If the stone is placed in spring when the ground is wet and then heavy spring rains come,
quite often the stone will have to be reset.
The stone company here like to wait for dry weather if possible.
My husband was cremated and I had a small headstone on his resting spot but now plaques are frequently used.

My dad is cremated. My mom has his ashes.
I wish I could 'visit him' in a cemetery rather than having to deal with my mom.
I visit my grandparents graves, and they are 300 miles away. I'm named after my grandfather, who died before I was born.
 
You can have cremated ashes buried in a cemetery. My late husband's ashes are in a beautiful marble bench, hollowed out to hold cremated ashes. That's where I'll end up too. Modern cemeteries offer all kinds of options.

It will be delivered to the grave site before interment, assuming it is not so complex a request that it cannot be delivered before interment.
