I hoped I'd never see these headlines again in my lifetime, but today is a Black day...and great Britain has gone to War!!
RAF Tornado jets have carried out their first air strikes against so-called Islamic State in Syria, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
Four Tornados from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus took part in the operation soon after MPs voted to approve bombing.
The strikes targeted the Omar oil fields in eastern Syria, which is under IS control, and were "successful", Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said.
He had personally approved the targets ahead of the Commons vote, he said.
On Wednesday, MPs voted by 397 votes to 223 for UK military action against IS - also known as Daesh - in Syria after a 10-hour Commons debate.

British fighter jets today started bombing ISIS-controlled oil fields in Syria in a bid to disrupt the revenues which the jihadist group depends on to wage terror around the world, hours after Parliament voted to authorise air strikes in the country.
Seven precision-guided 500lb Paveway bombs have been dropped on the east of the country in two separate raids by Tornado jets flying out from RAF Akrotiri, in Cyprus, with the first mission setting off just 57 minutes after MPs voted in favour of military action. The MoD said that the raids appeared to be 'successful'.
This morning eight more jets, six Typhoons and two Tornados, flew out from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland to join the raids on Syria in response to a request from Britain's allies.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon insisted this morning that it was necessary to disrupt ISIS's sources of revenue and arms by bombing oil fields - but confirmed that the RAF would consider providing air support to allied troops on the ground in the future.
