Dave went to the grocery store and said most of the people had masks and also the employees, except one woman pulling groceries for curbside pickup had it pulled down around her throat. Um... not cool. He also said there was plenty of toilet paper, and he found napkins (yay!) and yeast. And small bottles of hand sanitizer at big prices. $1.90 for little bottles. He bought some anyway. When he gets home, we have a new routine. We each get a Clorox wipe from our dwindling supply, and wipe down the groceries, and we fill the sink with soapy water and wash the produce, then dry it on the counter. Maybe it's overly precautious, or maybe not. One thing I do know, it's annoying as heck.
the latest information
we've been given is that there is no need to wash down the groceries when you get them home.. certainly not in a bowl of water and soap which some people have been doing as well as yourself . if you feel better about cleaning your groceries ( and we do it too, and I agree it's a real PITA and takes so long to get everything put away ). spray each pack with a little sanitiser, and wipe over with a clean cloth or kitchen towel .. keep gloves on while doing it.. and remember not to spray where the use by date ism, because it takes the date right off.. !!
Throw any carrier bags away.. or if using your own bags either put them in the washing machine or wipe them down with bleach solution ( just a tiny amount of bleach to a lot of water)..or use sanitiser .. then hang them somewhere out of the way.
Another tip given was to always wear the same shoes to the supermarket... when you get home take your shoes off at the door, (outside or inside)... spray the soles with sanitiser, or wipes whatever you're using and leave them in that same place , using them only to wear where other people have been contaminating areas..
for example if no-one but you and yours have been in your garden, you do not need to sanitise your shoes..
Sanitiser is very expensive to buy in bottles, ( we still have none available in the stores here )... but we make our own. Buy a large bottle of rubbing alcohol ( Isopropyl) with a minimum strength of 70%... then mix it 2/3rds Alcohol, to 1/3 Aloe vera gel, for hand cleaning (the aloe vera will keep your hands soft)... and use the straight unmixed Isoprpyl for the sanitising everything else...
I bought a dozen small spray bottle (handbag size).. online, and decanted a jugful of the mix into them, and put a bottle in every bag we carry and also a bottle in each of the cars... .
We wear gloves to the stores, but after storing the shopping bags in the car, and disposing of the gloves we still spray our hands before touching the steering whell..and after we put the shopping away we clean the front door handles inside and out..
