How gullible are you?
I consider myself a fairly intelligent woman but am incredibly gullible?

Why is this?

It’s not like I lack life experience.

Where does being gullible come from?

Do you consider yourself gullible?

i am not gullible when it comes to purchases but, i am very gullible when it pertains to people. i tend to believe whatever nonsense they fill me with. it is usually lies and i end up suffering.

I have a friend , who is not exactly known for his honesty. One of his favorite sayings is that "anyone can be taken". Turns out, WE ARE all human.
BTW. Studies have shown that most of ultra-devoted cult members have above average intelligence.

Na!! I was never gullible...I have that Italian mind...I can tell who is not really my friend...I worked in a school for 25 years...With many
people that talk behind your back...When I retired, I only have 3 friends that are real friends....The rest, I couldn't care where they are....
Except when I go to the store, it seems someone will be in the store and I mostly hide in another isle...

I don’t know that I agree with the idea that gullible = trusting.

Being gullible just means that you’re easily persuaded to believe something or other. You’re credulous rather than incredulous.

I think that being gullible means that you’re easy to manipulate, whereas trust implies a generally positive attitude towards people. To me those are different things. Similar but not the same.

I used to be very gullible. I’ve learned to become more discerning and recognize when someone is attempting to con me.

Gullibility assumes your openness to receive what comes your way. Trust goes in the opposite direction, and is something to extend to someone. That’s my take anyway.

As for me, regardless of where I'd been and the diversities of people I knew along the way, I had almost no experience with scammers, con-artists, manipulators in the distant past.
People usually were who and what they said they were; and when individuals presented a need or other situation, it was usually legitimate.
And with that background, like the saying goes, 'Wanna know how that's been working?'

I recall 'gullible' was the word one older member used here on the forum years ago when the subject of cults came up.
If a person does not know how 'They' (cultists) operate, one really has no defenses against it.

This may be true but this is not how I meant it at all.
I meant in that I believe many things that others people don’t. I’m probably more delusional by my own mind than anything. This didn’t really have anything to do with other people. That would be like placing blame where it doesn’t belong.

I’m not ‘come here and drink the purple koolaid ‘ gullible. Excessively naive is the how I would explain my gullibility.

That’s a great definition. I agree. I’m not a trusting person and not easily conned but if my husband told me a story about something that happened to him at work or some crazy thing on the latest news, I’ll usually believe him. I guess it is because I trust him so he definitely can pull the wool over my eyes so maybe trust is definitely a huge factor in it.

Ive been practising recording my singing and saxophone playing. It’s not something I’ve ever done before so I’ve since discovered that I sound just like a duck.

Well thank you. That’s my paranoia rearing it’s ugly head. Sometimes I personalize everything when at times it has nothing to do with me. Plus this post was from last January. Right after Christmas my moods plummet due to seasonal affective disorder so you can’t take anything I say seriously but you are so sweet to say such a thing.
Lately I haven’t been posting as much because I’m practising recording my singing and saxophone playing so I can post some of my stuff. Since I don’t have a proper microphone my sax playing sounds a bit duck like. At least it does to me. My husband says I’m too critical.

Currently our indoor/outdoor cat has befriended a stray. I think it’s sleeping in one of our sheds and when our cat stays in, it meows outside my bedroom weekend which gets the dogs barking. I try and chase it away without getting our dogs all riled up . It doesn’t take much to rile them up. They must take after their mother. Lol
