Yes... and Chicago has very strict gun laws and just look at all the guns in the hands of Gang members... WELL.... virtually all of those guns come from other states with very loose gun laws... In fact.. Chicago is about a stones throw from northwest Indiana... A study has shown that 40% of the guns used in gang crime in Chicago were purchased in INDIANA... where there are tons of gun shows and loose laws... we will not see any reduction of criminals with guns until ALL States have the same laws for background checks and gun show loopholes closed. It makes sense... Criminals in Chicago have to get guns from somewhere.. so they go where it's easy to do so.. they can't grow them in their backyards...

In another thread, I commented on the incorrect "assumption" about the Gun Show Loophole, that seems to have captured the attention of many people. The problem is NOT gun shows, but rather Straw Purchases. There is a thriving industry in the Chicago area...and most major metro areas...where those without a felony record are buying guns, and re-selling them on the streets of our cities....mostly to drug and street gang members. These guns are purchased legally...according to existing laws, then peddled, at a nice profit, to the thugs. Much the same has happened in many of the highly publicized mass shootings we have seen in recent years....Columbine, Sandy Hook, and most recently San Bernardino....just to mention a few.
The vast majority of Gun shows are operated by licensed dealers who follow the same rules as any sporting good stores....proper identification, background checks, etc. However, once the gun is sold, the dealer has no control of how it will be used...and this is where the Straw Purchase problem comes into play.
As I stated in my other post, the Only solution I see is for the Law to hold a Straw Purchaser liable, as an accessory, for any crimes committed by the individual he sells or gives the gun to. I listened to most of Obama's Town Hall meeting, this evening on CNN, and unless I missed something, the subject of Straw Purchases was Not mentioned.
We may Finally see the Law try to apply this principle in the San Bernardino shooting....where the fool who purchased the guns has been arrested and charged. I hope they give him decades in prison.
