Happy 90th to the Queen!

She has provided royal stability in an uncertain world that the whole world admires. God Save the Queen! And for many years to come...
 

She still looks good, but it would be nice if she would step aside and allow someone else
do the job for awhile. Preferably someone without a hat and a purse.
 
Perhaps, in her wisdom, she doesn't think her heir is quite prepared for the task at hand.

The (unwritten) Constitution simply has no such mechanism. The last abdication nearly brought the monarchy down.

If she abdicated she would, like the last one, have to leave the country, as we cannot have two monarchs living here, and I don't think we should be exiling 90 year old ladies.

Even if the monarch becomes totally incapable we use a Regent.
 
From things I have heard her say, she will never abdicate. There was a speech she made, at the unveiling of a statue of George VI, and when I heard that I realized all the people who say she might abdicate just don't have a clue.
 
Oh. Sorry I didn't understand the rules. Abdication is such a scary word.

I take back what I said. I've always admired her, especially her down-to-earth work
she did during WWII.
 
The Queen and some of her grand/great grandchildren....the little girl holding up her grandmother's purse is adorable.

To do that she would have to break the pledge that she made to her subjects when she became queen. She will not do that. Abdication is not an option.
She can and will hand over some of her duties to other family members but she remains the one who signs the legislation as long as her wits and strength remain up to the job.

I wish her well on her 90th birthday.

Long may she reign over us.
God save the Queen.
 
I've always admired the Queen...but I really LIKED her after I read that one of her favorite TV shows was "Golden Girls!"... heh! :D

I did until she humiliated her son before the world by refusing to attend his wedding.

Many parents do not exactly approve of our children's' choice, but very few of us sit sulking at home while the ceremony goes on.

It the boys don't have a problem with Camilla then neither should she.
