Happy Fathers day (Australia)

Wishing all fathers a very happy day today.I know I am having a good one :)

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.
A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail...
Happy Fathers Day to All the Dads, Grandpa's and Uncles

Good for you, Phants.

I spent some time yesterday thinking about my dad who died suddenly in 1969, before I really got to know him as adult. He was in the army when I was born and didn't see me until I was 8 months old, then he was off to New Guinea and I was nearly 3 when he was demobilised. He was a quiet, introverted man who read a lot and spoke little. I really wish I had more time with him but I was luckier that those kids whose fathers never came back at all.

Today hubby and I went to church and then drove over our daughter's house to have an indoor picnic at her house. I called it a picnic because we didn't go to any trouble. I brought the chicken drumsticks, some bread rolls and I made a batch of fresh scones to have with jam and whipped cream and dear daughter supplied the salad and everything else. Our three granddaughters were there too and we celebrated Fathers' Day with hubby and son in law. Simple but very satisfying.

Now at home watching Doctor Who. Perfect day, really.
