New Year's Day was never a very big deal for my family. I only remember Easter, Mother's & Father's day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas as observed family occasions. I never knew my parents to celebrate. My dad usually had to work because he'd trade another employee to get Christmas off so they could have New Year's Day off (probably recovering from their celebration). On New Year's Day the Christmas decorations would be taken down and put away.
