Never heard of it before today, but it was featured in our Good Morning TV programme. I understand why you would be more aware of it in the USA as you write the date with the month first.

We've used computers to calculate pi to more than 22 trillion digits. I wonder why they stopped at 22 trillion? Who knows what may lie beyond?
They made March 14 Pi Day because the calulation of pi begins 3.14. March 14 also happens to be Einstein's birthday. Strange coincidence.

my cat came from the country animal shelter. only abut 6-8 weeks old, all black except small patch on her belly and one tan paw. as she grew, it became obvious that she was tortoise shell! they named her Sweetie Pie at the shelter. i made an adjustment to Sweetie Pi and a reduction to Pi. will try to post a pic once camera charges.
