Has anyone gone to a chiropractor?

How did it go? Did it take long to make progress?
Chiropractors vary a lot. The last one I saw was amazing. The fellow before him was terrible.

The fellow I like gives me exercises. I think it is pointless to see if a chiropractor if we do not do what we need to do to strengthen our weak muscles that usually lead to the problem in the first place. He also explains everything to me. I like that a lot.

Full disclosure: I used to do business consulting for Doctors of Chiropractic. Yes, I'm biased. All of the following is just my opinion; take it for what it's worth.

Chiropractors are (generally) divided into two groups:
Straights -- who do only adjustments to align your bones. They rely on your re-balanced body to fix the rest of what's going-on.
Mixers -- both adjust AND employ other modalities (therapies) to bring about healing. Massage, traction, electric stimulation (Think TENS, but more aggressive) etc.

If what's troubling you enough to visit a Doctor of Chiropractic has been bothering you for months or years ... it's not fair to expect one visit to a Chiropractor to fix you. "One shot wonders" are a rarity; don't keep your expectation "bar" that high.

If they try to sign you up for their long-term treatment plan on your first visit ... leave. IMO, these guys are more interested in locking you in to their "Daughter's College Fund" than they are in helping you. (You very well *may* have a chronic condition, requiring monthly or 2X-a-month treatments, but if they put the sales pressure on you that first visit, I wouldn't go for that.)

I'll stop now.

I went Chiropractor for 6 - 8 months, twice a week until my BCBS informed me to stop payment which is not cheap, about $150 price per session. The limit of Chiropractor came to end.n Also, the Chiropractor asked me whether I went Ortho.doc. for medication. I said 'yes' and she said both rx med. and Chiropractor to alleviate my back pain. Medicare does not pay for Chiropractor.

While each session, it seemed to improve, but after its cession, my back pain went back to the original state. It seems to continue its session about which I don't know. All depends on person to person. You need to do it even your Insurance stopped paying if you'd like a good outcome, but I have no idea what pain problem for which you'd been seeking.

My experience of Chiropractor did not much help, .... but the other might get benefit.
Rx medications and heating pad is more alleviate the back pain.

My experience with them is if you don't have a good one they just make it worse. You will still hurt anyway after the first session. They advise you rest and drink lots of water after the appts. I wouldn't base it on one visit. Most chiro care takes several appts to get relief.

Yes I have been to chiropractor with excellent results. Most chiropractors are good honest people. Like Phil said, going to a chiropractor isn’t an instant fix. They will adjust your back. They will generally give you stretches or exercises to do to help keep your muscles in alignment with your back but if you’ve had a back problem for months or years, the chances of your back staying in alignment are slim to none.

Expect to need to go to a chiropractor for a while until your back problem has been corrected. This could take 4 to 8 weeks depending on what problem you have. If you don’t trust your chiropractor, find someone who you do trust. Most of the members here HAVE had good treatment that’s worked. One member didn’t. Maybe that member didn’t have a good chiropractor.
I don’t know and neither does anyone else.

What I DO know is that you need to have patience. A misaligned spine doesn’t stay aligned after just one adjustment. It takes a few adjustments to start to get better. If you have questions you might want to ask your chiropractor. Most of them are very knowledgeable about backs and healing and will be more than willing to share their knowledge with you.

1. They need to x-ray to determine the problem before they can try to help.

2. They are NOT all created equal. Their expertise varies from ā€œnot worth a pinch of saltā€ to walking on water. My current chiropractor walks on water.

2.1 For. Sure stay away from anyone who wants to sign you up for a prepaid plan.

3. I have a 2012 diagnosis of Grade 2 spondylolisthesis. a low-grade spinal condition where a vertebra slips forward by 26% to 50% over the one below it. Diagnosis was done by a neurosurgeon using MRI’s and CT’s.

He called my husband into the x-ray dark room with me and said nobody with any ethics would operate on me because in his opinion, I am in operable.

he lowered his voice and told me to find a good chiropractor which I did. She adjusts me on a weekly basis if I want to be able to stay upright and walking, plus when I can afford to pay for it, she also does spinal decompression because none of this is covered by insurance.

i had one at one point that was supposedly gentle. she was so gentle that i'm pretty sure she was a quack. some of the stuff she had me doing made me wonder.

i had one that got lotsa movement going so i felt better but my bones are too fragile to go to him anymore. last time i had a treatment it made things worse so i decided to get acupuncture instead. i get more benefit from that than chiro care.

I went to one chiropractor session on Thursday. I still have plenty of pain. I'm wondering if I should go again.
Unlike Rx med. just one session is not enough to determine whether Chiropractor is helping or not.
If I were you, I'd try two more sessions. If the pain is persistent, I'd go to the other route.

Any gravely pain, it's so much work. That's sure to say through my personal experience.

btw, Chiropractor for pinched nerve many years ago corrected after more than 8 weeks' sessions, twice weekly.

Be sure and let the Doctor know when you return. You'll probably be asked more questions about the pain. (Where? Intensity? Duration? Etc.) The Doc can treat you better with good feedback.
