Have you accumulated art that you use to display in your home or decorate with it?

I love art and have been going to galleries and open studios for many years. I had bought some original art before I met my wife and she and I have continued to buy it from time to time. We have paintings, prints, sculpture, drawings and ceramics. We don't have a whole lot of art overall but we do have enough to decorate our home the way we want to. Since we've pretty much maxed out or display spaces (walls, corners of rooms, etc...) we rarely buy new art these days. We have a few pieces we bought earlier put away because we don't have space for it.

To complicate matters my wife is a glass artist and she occasionally makes things she wants to keep and display so we have some of her artwork around the house as well.

None of what we have is valuable but we enjoy what we have.

The last thing we bought while we were in Greece last year and it was a metal and ceramic sculpture that hangs on the wall.

That is how I decorate too. Almost everything I have is an original, whether it cost $5 at a garage sale or more at a gallery. When we moved to this small, open concept house I had to give a lot away. I enjoyed collecting everything I have but those days are over. As you said, nothing is valuable but it is to me.

I love art!
My interest in art started at a young age. My mother had a collection of art books that I loved and a good friend of mine introduced me to art galleries.
I love spending time in art museums, going to art galleries, discovering and admiring street art, collecting art books, and strolling through art festivals.
Over the years, I collected very different styles and pieces from around the globe. Nothing of great value. Presently, I retain very little. Like Jules, I gave a lot away but I still remain interested.

I’m not exactly sure what art is but I do own quite a bit of stuff that is precious to me.

I have a few pieces that I would personally like to find new homes for before I’m eventually forced to let them go as a result of my declining health or eventual death.

I think that I have enjoyed the hunt and joy of discovery as much if not more than actually owning things.

Owning things is quickly becoming a burden for me, I suppose that is a normal part of aging.

I love the symbolism of tall ships on the ocean. They remind me to explore when I can,
it takes more than just you to find your way, and always be ready for life's storms.
I have prints of tall ships in my living room. Plus they are just beautiful.

In my hallway as you enter I have 3 original drawings from a collection of Pencil Drawings of an artist
from a church I attended from his series of drawings called "The Expressions of Christ" by David Bowman.

We took vacations, but collected no art from any travels. I have one large G. Rumsky oil on canvas original - a seascape. I don't think it is valued for more than a few hundred $. There are a lot of oil paintings by my mother. Those are all particularly meaningful to me, but unlikely to be so to any surviving family members. I also treasure bronze statues I have on the mantel.

We have a lot of artwork on display at our house. Some are originals and some are prints. We have some Robert Bateman projects . He captures wildlife so well.
We also have our own artwork on display. I paint in both watercolours and acrylic and my husband carves beautiful songbirds. I have a waterfowl display of plates which i don’t have up. Maybe someday I’ll put them up.IMG_2381.jpegIMG_8077.jpegIMG_2033.jpeg

I don't necessarily have artwork, it's more like pottery and carvings from other countries that my mother brought back from her travels. I have some of them in the hutch on display and some placed around the house. She had brought back a 2ft Geisha girl from Japan, that I'd like to know where it disappeared to....
I'm just hoping my niece and nephew don't toss them once I'm no longer around.

More than I can display. I have been rotating items, like a gallery does. Makes it fun. I have a lot of original art, some of it my own. I also have celadon pieces - it seems that either one loves or hates it. Lots of mid-century brass castings of animals - my little zoo. I am still on the hunt at thrift stores. Goodwill has had my luckiest finds. They just put stuff out with standard pricing and don’t check for values online.

I’m no longer searching. If I were young and had no money, I’d head to a thrift store. There are some very large pieces for a pittance. They likely came a large home goods store, yet the are just fine for the price.
