Have you any experience with Mediums or Spiritualism?

I have. When I was in high school my father had remarried a very nice woman that happened to be into SPIRITUALISM big time. They lived in Hartford, Connecticut where she had séances on a regular basis. I would Grehound bus from California during the summer vacation to stay with them and attended a number of these séances. My dad was a big skeptic but went along to get along. It was the major cause of their breakup and divorce 10 years later. I saw and heard things at these séances that I don't believe or understand to this day and am myself a skeptic. I even went to a Spiritualist Convention with them in Pennsylvania while on leave from the military and had a Private session with a medium who brought forth my deceased grand father. Do I believe?? Nope.
My experiences caused me to read up on the whole shebang of Spiritualism and I was surprised to learn how big it is in the UK compared to the U.S.

I had a few drinks at a festival here , so I WASTED $15 on a tarot card reader on a whim . ( Darn beer !) LOL Anyways .... it was total bullsheet .

**** FYI --- during summer , in Milwaukee ,many organizations seems to have a "fund raiser" and they call it a festival. It's music , beer, food and carnival games and rides . The biggest ones are the Catholic Churches. Oh yeah .... it's big business here ... but that's a whole 'nother post !

.

I recently saw a show about spiritualism on the TV series "Mysteries at the Museum."
Spiritualism was a big fad in the 1920s... and even politicians became involved in it...
until it was exposed as a fraud by the prince of illusion, Houdini.

Season 14, Episode 13

" The Girl Who Fell to Earth, the Real Ghostbusters and Eclipsed by Columbus

Don Wildman explores the story of a young girl who survived a fall from a damaged aircraft
battle between the great Harry Houdini and spiritualists, and a lunar event that saved Christopher Columbus. "

I had my palm read by a reader in New Orleans several years ago. He told me that I had problems with math (which I do, seriously) and that my problem was that I was a natural left-hander but had been forced to become a right-hander. He said that if I learned to write with my left hand, my "math anxiety" would go away.

Who knows? I can only write with my left hand in "mirror writing", not the right direction.

There used to be a "Spiritualist Church" in Balham when
I lived up there, it is part of London, but I don't know if
it is still going, it might be as there were always lots of
people came out after any sessions that I saw if I was
passing at the time.

It was next door to one of my drinking places.

Mike.

Well yes there are and will always be skeptics and tricksters and charlatans that for sure - EVEN the bible warns about them in the end times [whenever that is gonna be?]. I've had a few dabblings with spiritualism - went along to a spiritualist church for a while - as a christian myself I found that the service was conducted similar to a christian church service - they said that they worshiped in the name of Christ and we sang a few 'normal' hymns. then the lights were dimmed and just one blue light remained lit - and the seance began - nothing frightening - we had been asked to bring flowers that we loved and identified with and handed these over which were placed in 'vases' - these were used by a 'leader' who touched them!

I think I recollect someone being identified as my great grandfather - the memory dims - but I found it all innocuous - quite enjoyable and certainly not frightening

Yes. Back in the mid 90's the company I worked for offered everyone with a certain # of years an early out package. I have always been a person who could decide things very easily; but this was mindbogglingly huge to me. I talked to everyone about it for hours. My hairdresser regularly went to "Mediums Night" in her town. So I went along just to see what would happen. They advised I should take the offer. Then a coworker suggested a private session with a different medium; so I tried that too. It was fun. I took notes while she talked; she said my aura was lavender and golden. I have not been back since. I can not express how frazzled I was at the time.

I believe that everything is possible; but in nothing specifically.

P.S. I had my tea leaves read in 1972. I am STILL waiting for Peter with a mustache to show up as he was allegedly my soul mate.:lofl:

color auras - Ah - reminded me of a colleague I worked with years ago and she was adamant that she could always see color auras around people and could determine their mood and personalities ??

There may be something to it, then again, one would think if there were, some of these folks would apply these skills to something like, winning the lottery? Just a thought. Don...

It's all a lot of nonsense. But down through the ages, some people have found ways of getting rich, or gaining power, by convincing others that they were into some kind of alternate reality.

My answer to the lot of them is, "Bah, humbug!"

I do think some people have a gift of sensing things about other people. The people I have spoken with cannot see things about themselves and they cannot use their gift like picking lottery numbers, etc. One friend told me she could not read for me as we were close friends and it did not work that way. She could see and feel things about other people but not relatives of hers or close friends.

I know how to read tarot cards myself, but a few years ago a friend and I went to a professional tarot reader just for fun. The reader dug up a deep secret from my past which showed up in her cards and I was flummoxed as to how her cards could have told this. I was so stunned I was just speechless. I'm openminded about the whole subject of spiritualism. The world and beyond is more than we know.

I had an interesting experience that was along a similar line, but it was with a person who said she could talk with animals. We saw this woman at the county fair, where she was “reading” people’s pets for them, and setting up appointments with people who had pets or livestock at home and wanted a reading.
My ex-husband wanted her to talk with his horse, so we made an appointment, and the lady came out and said she was communicating with his horse, Isadora.
I do not remember all of what she told us that Izzy wanted us to know, but part f it was that she never wanted to have babies because there was “something wrong inside of her”.
A year or so later, we moved cross-country, and had to sell the horses, and Izzy went to a new home that had other Peruvian Paso horses, and Izzy was bred.
The new owner wrote to us to let us know that when Izzy had her colt, she didn’t make it through the birth; but they were able to save the foal and put him on a bottle with milk-replacer.
Since Izzy had always been a very healthy horse, and she was not old, or any other reason why she should not have been able to safely foal a colt, I always wondered about that animal-medium and her message from Izzy that she didn’t want to have any babies, and if maybe Izzy really did tell her something was wrong.
In any case, it turned out to be correct.....
