Have you ever been in Times Square at New Years Eve?

Yup. Twice. Once in the 80s. Froze to death. But it was fun. The other time was a fulfillment of a childhood wish. I wanted to be there for the year, 2000. I don't know why, but as soon as I found out about the tradition: I wanted to be there in 2000. That was a good 40 years away. We stood next to the Italian National Soccer Team. Few in NY recognized them. It was cool, when some did. They were flabbergasted seeing their idols. We were so far back, we barely saw the ball drop down. At 12, everybody is cheering, kissing, jumping up and down, singing. By12:15, nobody there.

It was a childhood dream of mine, too, but I never had the chance to fulfill it. Now, I don't think I'd have the stamina for it.

Some people have been there for 16 hours already. It's raining. There aren't any port-a-potties. It's chilly.

I'm pretty happy here in my lounger, watching it on TV.

Born and raised in the Big Apple, you couldnt pay me enough to stand there and freeze my tush off...
With all the crazies roaming around today,I'd be terrified to be squished together like that!

I've not been to the USA..but I did got to Trafalgar Square in central London in the late 80's... wouldn't do it again!! I can see it all better on TV in the warm ....

When I visit my brother&family at Thanksgiving,we usually come into the city for dinner
I've walked by Time's Square over the years, have no desire to stand there for hrs on New Yr's Eve

Hub & I tried in the late '70's but arrived too late and the NYPD turned us away at around 32nd Street, so we went to a dive bar instead and watched on TV. Now that I think about it, the Security was great and NYC was under no threats. Must be incredible now. Happy New Year everyone.

Nope. Being an introvert, wherever three or more are gathered together is a place I don't want to be.

My wife just had to experience it, so we went one time, which will last me a lifetime. It was kind of fun early in the evening, but as time went on towards midnight, not so much. I ended up grabbing a guy by the wrist and twisted his arm because he tried to pick my back pocket. I guess that he didn’t know that I didn’t and still don’t carry my wallet in my back pocket; just a hanky. I told him that his Mommy should have taught him better manners.

Boy, did he ever hit he wrong guy!

No, but I've been in the UK equivalent, Trafalgar Square.

Got arrested too, D&D!

Released without charge.

On the way home got off the tube (subway) for a call of nature. Came out and found the train I'd got off had been the last one!

A good night (65 years ago).

I sat in my recliner and watched it last night. I can not think of anything that would motivate me to ever be that far north again.

Oh, yes, and so glad that I did for it was a most exciting adventure. I was 19 years old and my friend and I didn't feel the cold, we were just bubbly with being young and part of a huge crowd...until the scary moment when the ball fell and the crowd began to move and we were carried along, literally picked up off our feet for a while. I'm glad that I went but never had the taste to do it again, lol.

Blessings to all on this new year.
