Ditto.... to all of the above... and you're so right about not signing up to give Donations...I don’t answer unidentified calls, or accept unknown friend requests or do any form of gambling.
Courteous suspicion at all times. Keep credit & debit cards to a minimum & follow them on line. I don’t donate to anything because they all seem to be linked and one donation can lead to many different requests from different levels of integrity. In my city there are so many kinds and levels of crime that I practically expect it everywhere.
How do you get a tax receipt?I donate personally.. goods to charity shops.. and one off cash gifts to different other charities but never a debit or CC payment.. and never my address ..
The scammers wouldn't do it if no one fell for it.2 weeks ago I got a call from someone who said they were with PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE. They said I won 11, million dollars plus a car. They asked me if I would prefer a red car, or, blue or white. I explained I never used PCH. They said they had my address and phone number. They have called every day since then. Today they said they were coming after 4 pm.
They also said I needed a check for $500. to pay for shipping. Of course, I had called PCH days ago and they said the calls were never from them. Do people really buy into these scams
I don't claim donations back in Tax relief... ..I always refuse digital receipts , charities or non charities.. ...it's the quickest way for companies to share your email address with all and sundry..How do you get a tax receipt?
We can use Canada Helps Dot Org for donations. You can agree to pay their fee for processing. E.g. on $100 it might be $6 or $7, depending on the charity. They have my email address for the digital receipt and I can choose that the charity not know my address or name. All these charities have fees, most of them hidden.
