Have you ever been shot at?

On Sunday night, I was coming out of a drugstore when I heard gunshots and a woman screaming. I went around the corner and saw a man running towards a lady trying to open her car door and he shot at her again. She yelled and said she was shot. So I looked around and found a pretty nice size rock that I picked up and threw at him. I almost hit him, but I overthrew the rock over his head.

This time, he shot at me (first time I was shot at since Iraq in 1991) and I saw the woman finally get in her car, but she didn’t go anywhere or drive off. I pulled my gun and shot back at him and he ran away. I went up to the lady and she said she was shot in the back. I pulled out my cellphone and called 911 and asked for an ambulance. I guess the 911 operators have to ask a bunch of questions because she sure did, but I finally asked her if there was an ambulance on the way and she said yes, she already knew where I was from my phone giving the location. I didn’t know they could do that.

The ambulance showed up a few minutes later, but they wouldn’t get out of the vehicle until the cops came and made sure the area was clear. She was hit behind her right lung and the EMT said he thinks the bullet is stuck in her lung. They loaded her up and off they went. I had to go down to the police department and give a statement.

The lady knew the shooter’s name, so if he doesn’t plead guilty, I will have to go to court and testify according to the cops. I went back to the area on Tuesday and there are 4 cameras that may have caught parts of the shooting so I called the cops and told them and the one cop said they will check it out.

Good job, Born to Lose!

No, I've never been shot at. I have been held at gun point for what seemed like a very long time but was likely only a few minutes.

It's an experience I don't talk about other than to say it happened and it can happen to anyone just like the lady that Born to Lose saved.

It's one reason why I am so against gun grabbers and so supportive of citizens' right to own guns for self defense, hunting, target shooting and any other legal purpose. When you really need an on duty cop they are always at least minutes away.

I have been shot at but have not been hit by a bullet. Know the feeling of bullets whizzing in the air going by me and going through the leaves of trees I was standing by. I was in the Vietnam war and went through it there but here stateside it was from punk kids shooting their rifles and guns in forests trying to see how badass they could be, and they would be drinking booze or on drugs. They would not abide by basic hunter safety protocols but shoot their rifles trying to impress the other idiots that they were with. I might use a gun to defend myself but, if possible, I would just charge at them and pack dirt in their eyes-mouths - ears and dislocate a few joints.

I don’t think the shot was close. I didn’t hear it go by me and he really didn’t even aim. He just fired in my vicinity. I did figure out why she didn’t drive away. She was shaking really bad. I never seen anyone shake like she did.

I just called the hospital. She was released on Thursday.

I think what you went through would have been worse. Having someone hold a gun on me for awhile would be really stressful.

That’s a heck of a situation to come upon. Thank goodness you were cool, calm and collected. I should hope that the cops would have thought to check for cameras.

God Almighty... it's one thing reading about that sort of thing on the news or seeing it on Youtbe or TV... but to actually have it happen to you...wow... you probably saved that poor woman's life.

Thank God you weren't hit... sounds like the lady's body was in severe shock from the gunshot in her lungs..hence the shaking..

I do hope she survives.. ..keeps us updated I'd love to hear the Back story

My brother's daughter married a nice enough guy from the USA and has had two young children, having moved to the USA. She arrived back in the UK today with the children for good, leaving her husband behind, as gun crime in the States and the wellbeing of her children was making her ill.

Yes. Not at me but at my young family when I was 25. My children were with my wife...5 and 3 years old. We had bought some land and planned to build a house, so we walking around and some young men were shooting rifles nearby. I went and asked them to stop because they were too close to us. Answer "Who Says!". I told them they were on my property, and I wanted them to leave and quit shooting. I guess these were local yahoo's who came to the area more than once to play. So they mumble, get in their car, and start to drive away.
I heard another shot, and then heard the bullet whizz by. I yelled for my family to duck down. They didn't come back.

My Dad rang my mother one morning to tell her he had been shot and an ambulance was bringing him home? When he told her the story things were a little clearer. . It seemed an apprentice at work fired a nail gun and the nail just grazed his temple. You could see the red marks on the side of his face. He had to take a few days off work. That was his lucky day.

Never been shot at. But I have watched The Matrix, so I know what to do if someone does.
Oooh, you are awful. :giggle:

My apologies to the OP. Couldn't help laughing at this post.

On a more serious note, I am pleased that a woman under attack was defended by a concerned stranger. I too hope she recovers and that her attacker gets to be locked up for a long time.

No. I held a gun on someone, though.

I was spending the night at a girlfriend's house and some guy broke in through her back door. I didn't have to fire; soon as he saw me at the top of the stairs, he ran off. Flew, more like. I never saw anybody move so fast, especially considering his arms and legs were flailing in all directions.

I was aimed and ready for him to come around from the kitchen, but I was lighted from behind so I have no idea if he even noticed I was armed. I'm sure he didn't expect to see a man standing there.

Anyway, the GF had had a peeping Tom for a couple months, and that's why I'd been staying there, or her at my place. Police thought it was probably one of her neighbors. After he broke in, my GF moved in with her brother til she found another place.

I was shot at a few times while in the Mid East also. I think it makes you realize how fragile one can be. It also makes you realize that at any moment, your life can be over in a blink of an eye.

Reading the posts of people having been held by a gun would be worse for me. When someone is firing at you, you at least have a chance to find cover. When you are having a gun held at you, all you can do is stand there and hope for the best outcome. You don't know what's going through their mind.

One time, years ago, I went deer hunting at a national park which allowed hunting due to an excess number of deer. I got there early and found a nice spot behind a big downed tree. Shortly after sunrise, the place turned into a shooting gallery, and a couple of stray bullets hit the tree I was hiding behind. I stayed hunkered down, and finally the shooting quieted down....at which point I slowly and carefully worked my way back to the parking area. I left that "war zone" and never went back to any "organized" hunt again.

There might be some folks on this web site that think I should be. However, sorry to say, I have never been shot at. Guess I have been sort of lucky?
