Have you ever fainted in public?

All this talk about a certain presidential candidate fainting reminded me of the only time I ever fainted. In a room full of people, just before lunch, flat out on the floor.

I had given blood the afternoon before and skipped breakfast. Very embarrassing. Came to just in time to stop them from calling EMS.

Have you ever fainted in public?

As a teenager after donating blood @ the Red Cross. I ate the cookie, drank the orange juice,

started to sit up and get off the table, took one step and then WHAM ! out like a light!

I woke up on the floor with an electric fan blowing on my face.

After a few minutes, I got up and walked back to work, never the worse for wear.

No Nancy, sometimes if it was a really hot day or something I would feel faint and sit down until it passed, but never fainted in private or public.

I guess donating blood can really zap you. That is also the only time I fainted. I had just donated and walked across the room to go to the restroom. Suddenly I was sweating and everything was a spinning gray. I knew I was in a bad way so I dropped to the floor. I didn't pass out completely but it took a bunch of glucose pills to straighten out.

Many many years ago I got light-headed in a store and went down. I wasn't totally out, just couldn't raise my head up off the floor. My first thought was that my four-year-old granddaughter would be scared but I knew we were OK when I head her pipe out: "Attention K-Mart Shoppers! My Meemaw needs help!"

No, we weren't in K-mart at the time, but it worked. I was fine in a couple of minutes and she was mighty proud of herself for taking such good care of Meemaw.

Something amusing is when you're in a situation where someone expects you pass out given your age or what have you. It took several hours for me to get my most recent body art. Yes you do bleed plus I hadn't eaten for hours. I felt fine when I stood up, but of course it takes me a few minutes not to walk wonky, especially after sitting for so long. I noticed the biggest guy in the place got up and stayed next to me for a few minutes. I think they were afraid somebody might have to catch grandma:p

I used to pass out quite a bit when I was growing up. I am familiar with the feeling, so if I feel like I am fading and my ears begin ringing loudly, I sit down and put my head between my knees. Yes, I have had to do this in public but it sure beats hitting the floor!

Yes, when I was a teen I would go without eating a lot and once I fainted as I walked into a department store. Woke up and the room was still spinning.

I fainted once at an airshow years ago. It was very hot and I overheated. I had told my companions I was too hot and felt ill, but people just told me to suck it up because they didn't want to leave. So -- plop, right on the airfield in a huge crowd of people.

I was standing in line at the unemployment office and was 5 months pregnant. It was a bit stuffy and hot and the guy standing in line behind me caught me as I went down.

I do have a problem with my blood pressure being too low and when I stand a bit too quickly I am ready to fall within about 10 seconds of walking. I just lean on something or sit on the floor. Orthostatic hypotension.

Never in public, just twice at home. It was 10 years ago when I was having some "female trouble" which made me horribly anemic.

I was sitting at my computer at home and suddenly felt dizzy. I shut it down and when I stood up, the next thing I knew, I was on the floor. I got up, but still felt dizzy and tried to get to my bedroom to lay down. The next thing I knew, I was laying on the floor just outside my bedroom door. The next day there was a bump on my hear near my left temple. I think I may have knocked against the door frame when I went down. I had a rough time for a while, but finally had an operation for it.

BTW - despite what is shown in movies or on TV, when people faint, they always fall face down or to the side - never face up.
