Have you ever found someone's credit/debit card?

Stopped in the outer lobby of post office earlier to mail something, stayed a couple minutes at the customer counter/prep area fiddling with my phone. (Service area was closed and the gate was pulled down, but there was open access to locked p.o. boxes). I happened to look down and saw what looked like a credit card, but upon closer examination saw it was a prepaid debit card with Visa logo.

I stood there a minute, then decided to just slip it into the mail slot where I'd put my item. I didn't want to just leave it there, and no staff was on duty. Even if the person came back looking for it, better to cancel the card and check with post office on Monday. That's what I'd want someone to do if it were me - sure wouldn't want my card just laying there begging to be stolen!

Couple years ago I was using an ATM machine outside the bank and saw that someone had left a credit card on the little ledge, so since it was during bank hours I took it inside and gave it to a teller.

I once found someones purse in a buggy outside a grocery store.

Two shady lookin' guys were eyein' it...but making no move to get it.

I took it inside and gave to the manager.

I hope she got it back. I'll never know.

ac....You are an honest person. Our F/A's always found all kinds of stuff lying about in the airplanes after deplaning and gift cards were no exception.

One month I notice grocery charges on my credit card, I always charged them to my debit card!! I looked in my wallet and the debit card was not there and the credit card was in its place!! I contacted the bank and asked where the last debit was made and they told me three weeks prior to my CC statement at a carry out restaurant over in the next town. I went there and asked if they had my debit card and they said they turned it in to my bank branch across the street. I went to that branch and they gave me the card they where holding for 3 weeks!!! When I asked why they did not call me they had no answer!!!!

Ten or so years back someone left their card in the ATM along with $100 in cash still at the slot. I tried to catch them as they left (out of state tag) but wasn’t successful. I went inside the bank with the card and money. I made them give me a receipt and note, the banker told me it happens all the time but very few turn money in.

These days there are surveillance cameras everywhere, definitely at ATMs. Safe bet that there was surveillance in the postal lobby referred to in my opening post.

We're being watched, even in small convenience store parking lots, as Michael Drejka now knows.

If I did I would turn it in ASAP! Had an email from Bank of America that my cc was one of a lot that was compromised and would be reissued. I called to be sure it was not a scam and no it was not. Got my new cc yesterday.

A few years ago, I found my neighbors car rental agreement. It had blown into my yard. It had his full name, age, DOB. address. phone numbers, SS#, credit card #, mother's maiden name, driver's license #, his car's plate #, and insurance policy #. If I wanted to , I had enough info to pass off as him. Until this time, I threw everything in the trash, figuring that my life was an open book. I went out and bought the most massive shredding machine I could. I shred everything, now.

No, but I dropped mine at the grocery and someone took it to customer service. Would do the same!

My sister dropped hers in a store, realized it at the next store, and called her husband who was regional president of their bank. Within 20 minutes or so, whoever picked it up had made purchases at three different places.

AC I've found purses...jackets...hats...jewelry....keys...all kinds of stuff. I usually try to turn it in to lost & found also.

Actually come to think of it...several years ago I was on my way home from work at a very late hr & a college kid on a 10 speed was riding back to his dorm when his wallet fell out of his pocket. He had some of those earbuds in listening to something & never heard it hit the street.

I stopped & scooped it up & made a u-turn & tried to find him but he was already gone out of site. The next day I opened it to look for some kind of ID & called the police. The officer was stunned that the guy had $125 in his wallet & I hadn't taken it.

Wasn't my money. At first when I saw it fall out of his pocket I thought it was cigarettes. I told the cop when he took the wallet back to tell the kid to be thankful I was a nosey old broad. LOL

Yes, while out rambling, I found a card and garage receipt while climbing up a hill. I rang the number on the back and cancelled it.

Yes at a suburban bus stop about a year ago it was after hours so I picked them up ( a drivers licence and credit card ) we were in our way into the city for a open air concert and I I thought there’s sure to be allot of police in attendance ,as soon as we got off the bus three police officers were walking towards us so I stopped them and handed them the cards their comment was
The owner of the cards should count their lucky stars someone honest handed then into us.

Just last Saturday, I lost my wallet with all my credit cards, driver's license, etc. I only had one credit card, so I applied, and opened another credit card account just days before i lost my wallet.
Yesterday, I got my wallet back, minus the cash, but with all the cards. Someone dropped it in a US mail box, and the Post Office mailed it to me.
I didn't know the P.O. did that. Thank you, Post Office people.

We were fishing at Port Canaveral once and my late husband reeled in a wallet complete with a little bit of cash, a couple of credit cards and a driver's license.

We tracked the owner down. He said he had lost it a week before when he fell in the water. He had cancelled his cards but was glad to get his license back as he hadn't had time to get it replaced.

Yes, coming out of the bank I noticed a credit card on the ground. Picked it up and asked about the owner in the bank. I took it in and gave it to him.
I believe in passing it on, over 20 years ago , something similar happened. I lost a front wheel off the front of my truck. It rolled right through town and into the gas station.

No. All I've ever found were cell phones- twice.
The first time one was in convenience store parking lot, and knowing the store is a hang-out zone for kids I took it in the store and gave it to the cashier.
The second time I found one while walking down the sidewalk; I called the P.D. nonemergency line and an officer came to pick it up.

A debit card is pretty safe from fraud if there is a password to be used and you use the insert method. But now with the tap feature?

One day at the casino, I went to use the ATM machine. There was $300 in cash sitting there which someone didn't take when they accessed the machine. I picked it up and held onto it because I knew someone would soon realize it. A woman with a frantic look came back and I asked her if she was looking for something. She told me she had left her cash behind. I gave it to her and she didn't even say thanks.

There's one store I go to where some cashiers ask if I want them to run the card as debit or credit. Debit = entering PIN. However, other cashiers simply run it as credit automatically- and it doesn't require a PIN.

Well here they have what is called a tap. You just tap your debit card on the machine and it records the sale. No pin number required. I use it but I keep wondering. What if I lose it? I can also choose to use the insert method or the swipe method in which case the pin number is required.
