Have you ever had the wind knocked out of you and you thought you were dying?

I was playing on the monkey bars at school when I was about 9 years old. I fell off the bar and landed flat on my back. I couldn't take a breath and I panicked. I got up and started racing towards the nurses office yelling "I'm Dying!". Half way to the office I regained my breath. It was horrifying and I really thought I was going to die. Now I look back on it and it is funny. It happened after that occasionally and I didn't panic. :)

Happened a couple of times but most memorable was when a group of us went to the stables on base to ride horses. Doing really good just easing along. Then the trail wound back towards the stables.

That is when the horses decided galloping back was in their best interest. Even that wasn't to bad until the horse I was riding stopped due to not wanting to cross a little stream. Stopping so quick I was thrown out of the saddle, over the horses head and landed flat on my back knocking the air out of me.

Took a few seconds to regain my breath, thankfully I still had the reins in my hand because I'm sure when that horse crossed the stream & left me laying there it would have been on it's way to the barn.

Yes! Four year old me was at the beach with my mom and bratty 13 year old brother. He picked me up and dropped me flat on my back on the sand. I couldn't breathe and it was so terrifying.

He ran away and my mom chased after him. He said he wanted to see if I would bounce! 🤬

Well, My first husband was physically abusive and
I was knocked unconscious a few times.
Saw stars a few times. (just like in the cartoons)
wind knocked out a few times.
You get up and think,
"Hey, This isn't what I signed up for!"
"Life should be joyful!"
(can't tell anyone)
(no one is going to help)
(not going to spend my whole life like this!)
so,
Got back up, stopped being a victim and got rid of HIM!

No hugs, folks. This was so long ago it's like a different life!

More than once. However, the most memorable was... fresh home from Vietnam and heading to new England in November. Had a 57 T-bird with a 351 Cleveland squeezed in. Lost control, (might have been going a little fast), skid 570 feet, hit a bridge backward, a guardrail post came through the door and ejected me. Car and I sailed through the air and slammed against a barn. laid on the ground trying to breath. Crappy feeling, welcome home.
Oh yeah, my buddy was riding passenger and when I looked up, he was hanging out the door with his head split open and I could see his brain membrane. All I could think at that moment was he was bleeding all over my new Dingo boots.
In the end we both survived.

I once hurriedly began stepping over one of those gates you put up to keep pets and kids in a room. My foot caught in it and I fell flat on the floor couldn't breathe for a little bit and broke the gate. I remember thinking how I got through childhood falling and being thrown around and never having that happen and here I was 40 some years old getting the breath knocked out of me.

I had a similar experience, Knight, when I was 18. Other than that one, I can' recall ever having the feeling of not breathing from a fall.
Many times I've been knocked on my back, fell from trees, but not enough to scare me by not catching my breath.
I don't care to find out what it feels like, either.o_O

Yes, and I wanted to knock the sh*t outta the kid who knocked the wind outta me!

Twice. When I was 6, a bull came at me with his head down and tossed me about 15ft away.
30 yrs later, a powerful gust of wind knocked me off the edge of a rocky ridge and I fell about 60ft.

Could have been worse both times - the bull was de-horned, and the point where I fell off the ridge was actually 80ft high. I don't think I would have survived that last 20ft.

Yeah, like my friend said "you know I really do miss my ex husband but my aim's getting better"!
