Have you ever "had to step aside"?

While listening 🎧 to a talk show..the host asked that question..
And, it got me to thinking...
Which, I'm still thinking about.🤔

But, maybe 'you' could answer it..better than me..right now.

Care to share!

Oh yeah, I did, the idiot shattered his back door window. I didn't laugh, but did say "Well, it's easier to unlock now"

A few instances of "I very well know that" came out of my (retired later) supervisors mouth. I just stood there blank faced when she saw the damage she'd authorized.

She was supervisor for 6 months, then retired....quickly.

Seems like an intriguing question, but I don't think I understand. To me, step aside means to let someone else take over -- perhaps because they have more expertise in that situation, or because it's their turn. But I don't think that's what you meant.
I agree with NorthernLight We need to know more. Could be "step aside this is men's work" or "step aside he found another woman".

On reflection I stepped aside big time when I was teaching.

I was Deputy Principal at an independent girls' secondary school and had been for16 years.
A new principal was about to be appointed for the next year and I spoke to the current one, a religious sister, indicating that if the incoming Head would like to choose her own DP, I was amenable to stepping aside.

At first the idea was dismissed but on reflection was later accepted.

So, from Deputy Principal I stayed on in the role of Curriculum Coordinator and Head Teacher of the Technology Dept and made myself useful to the incoming DP when he needed it.

This arrangement would have been impossible in a government school.

I was talking to my daughter the other day. One of my granddaughters, Alice, was doing what she does best - pushing the limits. Alice is 7, and my daughter told her she needed some time out in her room - to calm down.

When Alice came out, she calmly explained that she just wanted to talk about something and she felt that no one was listening. My daughter told her that sometimes adults need a bit of time to calm down too - so Alice, after thinking about that for 30 seconds, decided that next time, they should both go to their rooms.

Alice definitely isn't going to be a 'step aside kind' of person.
