Have you ever lost track of what day it is?

I rarely lose track of what day it is, but today I did and it was kind of embarrassing. A friend and I planned to meet for shopping and coffee on Wednesday this week. The plan was for her to pick me up at home at 2:00 p.m. So, I rushed around getting things done beforehand and then getting dressed to go. I usually wait outside for her at a few minutes to the hour. So, I went outside and it is hot and really humid lately, more than usual. So, 2:15 came and no friend yet. Then 2:20 which is highly unusual. I thought of calling her cell but I didn't want her to have to answer her phone in the car (illegal here and not a good idea anyway). So, I kept waiting. When it got to 2:30 I got really worried. That's not like her, so I called her cell. No answer, only voice mail.

I got really worried then and I thought to myself I sure hope she didn't get into an accident on her way to pick me up. I would feel really bad about that. So I called back and left a message saying I was worried and hoped everything was okay. I went back in the house and turned on my computer to see if she might have left an e-mail (I don't have a smart phone, but now I'm thinking about it). Nothing. So, I sat there and glanced at my daily desk calendar. It was Sept 4th just like it was this morning when I ripped off the top page. Then I did a double take, and it said "Tuesday." How the heck did I miss that? So, I called my friend back (she was scheduled to work today) and left a message explaining that I messed up as to what day it was.

Anyway, since I was already dressed to go out, I decided to take a cab (I don't drive) and go to a supermarket and get some groceries. Lol Just to make the best of things.

Does that ever happen to you? I still can't believe I did that.

We make sure one or the other of us look at the big calendar next to the refrigerator. This helps us not to miss appointments. Even with that sometimes we have to ask "What day of the week is this?". When you are retired it's easy to get mixed up on what day it is.

You had quite a day there Olivia. I know it wasn't funny to you but it was fun to read and also to know we aren't the only ones who forget.

No problem, Linda. I'm glad you took at it in a comical way, because it's how I meant it. Sometimes. that how you have to take things.

Anyway, a few minutes ago I got this mess from my friend:

OMG. I got your messages. Omg. I heard what happened. I'm so sorry. I can just imagine you standing outside IN THE HEAT waiting 30 minutes for me to come. Oh boy

We'll start all over again tomorrow.

I live alone. The first thing I do when I get up is take my morning meds. Then straight to my IPhone to see the date. I keep a lot of notes and reminders. I have no trouble remembering what is coming up. My problem is the memory of about the past two months. Frustrates me to death. So I keep a big calendar with a note of what I did each day.

Beth, I've traveled a lot in my life and in about 1980 I started feeling disconnected so I have kept a calendar or a journal every day since. It's helped me a lot. I have trouble sometimes remembering what I did yesterday, but now if my husband doesn't know either I can look it up and see.

Olivia, your friend sounds like a dear one! Tomorrow is a new day, huh? :)

Beth, I can just imagine how that can be, and we can find our ways to compensate for some things, and you've seemed to have find your way. The good thing about discussions about these kind of things is that it can help others with the same kind of things is that others don't find themselves alone with the same type of things alone and share how others cope with the same kind of of problems

Yes, she is. I was her maid of honor for her marriage in 1981. Her husband died of cancer in 2010. She is so beautiful and should have found a great guy by now but somehow some of us just seem to get glummed on the wrong guys, and maybe just a way to not commit. But that's a whole other topic. Doesn't matter how old you are.

LOL..that was funny Olivia...shame you had a wasted day..but it happens to the best of us. I've done it.. I did it last week but the opposite way around, I should have been at the dentist the day before, and I arrived at the dentist the next day all psyched up for a possible extraction, and it was the wrong day !!!!

Yes, we forget what day it is, especially on a week that has a holiday!!

Years ago we had a scheduled date to have family pictures taken at the church for there directory..Got 5 kids all dressed in their Sunday best, got there at the scheduled time, only a week early!!! As long as we where all dressed up,went out for a costly dinner.

Yes sometimes. I’ve been known to get my days mixed up. At times I forget what shifts my husbands on.
It is troubling at times but it happens.
I’m glad you have such a wonderful friend Olivia. That’s always nice.

I'm still working, so it's a bit more difficult for me to remember what day it is, because I'm self employed and I have different clients different days. The only time I get messed up with the days is when there's a public holiday, so my workweek is different!

I have a smart phone as well as my computer and they're linked, so my calendar is on both. I tend to stay very busy socially either with Ron or other friends, so first thing I do in the morning as part of my computer time before work is to open my calendar and see what's what for the week.

I also take supplements daily, and have them in a 7 day pill minder. So even though I may have trouble remembering the DATE, I don't usually forget the day ;) I mean, it's right there in black and white on my pill minder!!

Since retirement I have little reason to remember what day it is...so I take complete advantage of it.

It's part of my retirement benefits
:bowknot:

The date or day of the week is of little concern in retirement. We mark down any appointments or plans we make on the calendar, and glance at the calendar frequently. At breakfast, we usually turn on the TV to catch the morning news and weather reports, and that gets us on track quickly. If there isn't some prior commitment on a given day, I don't really pay much attention to what day it is.

The weeks with a holiday in it mess me up or if my routine has changed for some reason such as If I decide to do yard work on the day that I usually clean because it's a beautiful day or my son cuts our grass on a Friday instead of the usual Thursday.

olivia---welcome to my world---i can remember telepnone numbers real good but it sometimes takes a minute to figure out what day it is

Whenever a major holiday is in the middle of the week,it always feels like a Sat or Sun to me,when things are quiet
I have a 'retirement clock' on my wall, the 2nd hand shows the days of the week.Once in awhile I look at it just to make sure what day it is Sue

Has become a daily thing to me:)
Ill call a friend and ask...
I used to berate my late husband for doing the same thing.
Totally out of sync this week because I thought Labor Day was Sunday, so yesterday was Monday,riggt?L.O.L.

My issue is more with remembering the date. When you no longer have a set schedule it can be easy for all the days to run into each other. My husband laughs because I have the DATE as well as the time in large icons on my phone. Plus now I carry a calendar and keep it by me to write down all appointments.

I am so glad that I now don't feel so alone. Thank you all for your honest stories. I love it. :)

So, just to be sure, today IS Wednesday, right? And by the way, anyone know why days of the week are always capitalized?
