Have you ever lost track of what day it is?

I am so glad that I now don't feel so alone. Thank you all for your honest stories. I love it. :)

So, just to be sure, today IS Wednesday, right? And by the way, anyone know why days of the week are always capitalized?

Hi Olivia,I looked online regarding your question why days of week are capitalized, they are proper nouns which I didn't know Sue

Thank you, Sue. I know I've always written the seasons in caps, too. Just never thought about why. Sounds more like the German language, to me; they capitalize just about all nouns. I guess better to discuss in the English language forum. Might be fun. I always was good with English in school. Having moved so often up to the age of 18 having lived in a military family, I remember very few teachers. One is Mrs. Johnson in English class in Tacoma. She's probably gone by now, but I loved her.

Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I have to think a minute. Only because I have to know whether it's a day I am scheduled for home-delivered meals. Labor Day weekend I had a 4-day garage sale. Starting on Friday made it seem like Saturday and the holiday on Monday seemed like Sunday.

Many, many years ago when I was in the Navy, I woke up and looked at my watch. It said 5 o'clock, but I didn't know if it was 5am or 5 pm. There were no windows/portholes in our compartment. I had to go up on the main deck to see if the sun was shining.

Olivia, believe me you are not alone. Remembering the day has gotten worse for me since my children have grown up and not in school. I was accurate with the days until then, and that was years ago. Now I have to look at the calender at least once a day. After my husband retired it has gotten even worse. I hate it when a holiday falls on any other day except on a Sunday because you can be sure that will throw my mind off.

During the summer months we are more apt to lose track of the days but living in this big old home with our daughter and family, we're used to their work and school days that helps form our week. I just returned from taking our grand-daughter to school and will pick her up this afternoon so the school week still registers with us.

Another daughter, who lives nearby, and recently retired pops in sometimes causing us a momentary puzzlement as to why she's here on a week-day and not at work. If you live and socialize amongst retired folks, the day of the week isn't that important but if your daily contacts are with younger people, the structured week is still present.

I lost track of the day of the week quite often after I retired.
Then I discovered that I hate going to the grocery store on weekends.
So I started checking the day of the week before going to the store, which evolved into checking my grocery list on Fridays to see if there's anything I'll need before Monday.
I also have a list of what stores and restaurants have specials on specific day's of the week.
