Have You Ever Received A Phone Call From Yourself? Scam Alert!

If you ever receive a phone call from your own name, don't answer it. I did because my full name, spelled correctly, was scrolling across the top. Just happened tonight. A recording said there was a security breach in my state and asked me to enter the last 4-digits of my SS#. I didn't and hung up.

Then I googled it to see if others have experienced this. Yes, many have. They say it's a scam and the best thing to do is not answer any call from your own name in the first place...but if you do then DON'T enter any information they request.

The fact that you even answer the phone call is a signal to the robocall that this is a good number to keep calling back. Some say to call your provider. In my case that is AT&T who they say will tell you to download a "call protector app" but I don't trust that either.

I got a text message yesterday that tried to sell me medicine for opioid addiction...huh? The only addiction I have is sugar. If you have a magic bullet for that then sign me up, lol.

Be smart. Be careful. Be safe.

I heard about that on the news...haven't had it too me ....yet !

Thank you Lara for letting us know about this scam ...I’m in Australia so we will more then likely get them here sooner or latter
What will they think of next. :eewwk::eewwk::eewwk:

Thank you for your responses everyone! It's good for all of us to share these experiences so we all get a real sense of how pervasive it is.

It actually said "Illegal Scam" on my caller ID once, cracked me and my husband up. We've also had calls from numbers like 000-000-0000.

Just an FYI....my daughter was a Skip Tracer for several years and that was one method they used to get the debtors to answer their phones. Seeing their own phone number displayed made them curious enough to pick up. Probably wouldn`t work anymore with all the scammers out there now.

I have gotten one from my number. I didn't answer and then I blocked my own number. Just a few days ago, I got one that caller ID was listed as "Invalid Number". I laughed and blocked it too.

Yes,I have caller ID on my phone,I ignored it.
A couple of weeks ago,I picked up the phone by mistake without my glasses. The automated message was another scam saying'You Owe The IRS Money"Sue

What's really annoying is the scammers who use the area code and first three digits of my own phone number, then make up some phony last four digits. The first couple of times, I fell for it, thinking it was a neighbor calling, and actually picked up the phone. Then I caught on. They actually have the technology to appropriate the phone number(s) they are calling, and try to appear like a neighbor. Sometimes they make up a phony name as well.

You'd think with all the sophistication of their technology that they could get an honest job!

I got one about a year ago from one that I thought was a friend of mine. When I saw who was calling, I thought, "Well that's strange. She never calls me" and so I answered it. As soon as I did, some girl starts with her spiel about lower interest rates. I hung up on her so hard it made me wish my phone was the old fashioned kind that we "SLAMMED" down the receivers.

I've never gotten a call from my same exact number but very close! I don't answer them. Once in awhile I would answer just to tell them not to call me but I've stopped doing that because they just get another number to put on your user id. I don't know why these phone solicitors still exist, I thought everyone couldn't stand them! Some people must be answering them if they keep calling lots of people. On my phone I can decline the call and I have started doing that when I see them call-that is on my cell phone. My home phone I am lucky and don't get those calls.
